Wow, you left-coasters really do things differently! I wish I were closer -- since Robyn's playing on my birthday - -- too bad he couldn't be doing that in Illinois! Ciao! Wasn't their 'greatest hits' package originally set for release about the same time as Moss Elixir? The current 'rumour' floating around is that Robyn will release some sort of companion album to 'Storefront Hitchcock'. Will A&M try to cash in on the release of the film? I actually hope A&M has some new stuff to release (like the b-sides taht did not make it to their greatest hits package, and maybe some of the 'A&M Covers Sessions'). Especially mid-week. Sadly, I think Mr. Clark has hit the artichoke squarely on the noggin. However, I should just like to take this opportunity to ask that if any of you *do* manage to go, *please* remember to bring along the old box brownie to capture any ensuing Fegness for posterity. Remember; there's a spot waiting for you on the Fegfotos page (and there are quite enough pics of those bay area types already!). http://home.earthlink.net/~njaz/fegfotos.html ~N (If you have any photos of previous get-togethers please let me know also.) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Nov 1997 13:55:44 -0500 (EST) From: Bayard Subject: Re: safe & warm in LA On Thu, 6 Nov 1997, Mark Bauer wrote: > Can you swing by Sacramento also? Ross Overbury suggested that I introduce myself so here goes. I've been subscribing to the digest for about a month but haven't had anything to contribute really. I became a Robyn Hitchcock fan when I was an undergrad at University of Illinois about 12 years ago. Saw him in 1985 at Mabels which is a club in Champaign, IL. This was a great weekend for shows -- REM played the Auditorium (on campus) on Saturday with 10,000 Maniacs opening up. It was mid-November -- my birthday in fact. We (my best friends: Michele Voltaggio and Sandy Muer) saw REM on Saturday, saw them again in St Louis (at the Fox) on Sunday and Robyn on Monday. Monday was an interesting day. It started out unseasonably warm for central Illinois in November. getting up into the 70's (f) and then in the afternoon the temperature dropped about 30 degrees, the sky turned green and you guessed it -- a tornado touched down on the outskirts of town early Monday evening. But we were determined to go to the show inspite of any "funny" weather. It was great -- not at all crowded -- but the crowd that was there was an interesting mix of local musicians, women and the odd sort in trenchcoats. We thought that latter were particularly significant at the time but looking back I reallize that hey! it was raining -- of course there were people in trench coats! A local band, Weird Summer opened and then Robyn and the Egyptians came on. Robyn wore his big checked suit and I think they played everything that I wanted to hear. (Fegmania was the most recent lp, I believe.) Since then I've seen Robyn mostly in Chicago -- at the Metro in '87 or 88, at the Park West, with Billy Bragg, and a two-night stand at Lounge Ax. I was lucky enough to see him at Bumbershoot this summer because my college roommates (Michele and Sandy -- see above) and I had a reunion in Seattle over Labor Day weekend. Currently I live in DeKalb, IL about 75 miles west of Chicago where I'm (finally) finishing a M.A. in art history and working at the university. I've really been enjoying reading everyone's postings. Thanks! Hi everyone - just thought I'd let you know the good news - on Monday I was told that (unofficially as yet) I have passed my M.Sc. with distinction (i.e., 'A' grade)! All that is left to do with it is tidy up a few typos which the examiners noticed, then get the final copy bound and sent to the Psych Department archives. Those of you I owe letters to (Cheri, Henry, Will, Tim), I'll get round to it soon - honest! Fairfax Avenue, right? Anyone care to join me? Bay Fegs? If not, no problem, I'll do my best to represent Fegs everywhere. :) Hope to see you there, Sydney P.S.
