We need more suggestions to fill up a bunch of cards. Basic Magic The Gathering (TM), (R), (U), Pareve card colors are: Red (Earth & Fire, Chaos & Violence), White (Healing, Protection, Chivalry), Black (Death & Decay), Blue (Water & Air, mental, illusion, artifice), Green (Earth, Natures forces (serene & destructive)), and Colorless (artifacts, mysteries left behind to wonder about) If we really do this, I suggest we avoid MTG's colors & names and vocabulary so we can print them endlessly without violating any copyrights. In other words, we need (5) Robyn colors (perhaps based on Surgery) based on (5) sources of power (Love?, Death?, Ether?, Nocturne? Dark Green Energy?) we also need a short term for the power itself: Prawns? Toast? Feg? Basic Card Types are: LANDS: (eg: Rainin' Twilight Coast, Isle of Wight) we need 1 general source for each color and perhaps 5 or more common to all. The rest of the cards, you can never have to many of and include: CREATURES: (e.g. Happy the Golden Prince, Child of the Universe) these guys do the fighting while we sit back and watch. They also can have special effects (e.g. You Are The One has double strength if Tennis Ball is in play, or Executioner of Love has protection from Love) WALLS: (e.g. September Cones) barriers of protection ARTIFACTS: (e.g. Railway Shoes, Brenda's Iron Sledge, Toast) items left behind by Reg's of the past SPELLS: (e.g. Strawberry Mind, Ice Cream Hands) things to destroy, help, eradicate, burn, char, mame, purify, heal or affect all the other cards (e.g. When 1974 comes into play, destroy all illusions and double the strength of all nostalgic creatures) ARTWORK: The cards are very pretty to look at and fun to play with. We'd need one picture or groovy design for each card, and it really should be original works. It doesn't have to be in digital form, but it should be scannable (if you oil paint, take a beautiful picture of it). VOCABULARY: We need to personalize this to fegdom, should this take off. For starters, how about a name for the game? Fegic seems kind'o'lame. GOAL: The goal of Magic is to be the only one left standing. Horn TBBoEM This quote is from Delton T. Horn's book "The Beginner's Book of Electronic Music", copyright 1982. I found the quote rather humorous since, as well as writing/playing pop-psych songs along the lines of Syd Barrett/Robyn Hitchcock/etc., I've also played guitar for many '60s garage/punk bands for ten years or so. Fuzz guitar is a sound (actually a few different sounds, depending on tone/duration/etc.) that I use a lot. > >Admittedly you don't hear the precise noise from "Keep on running" or >"Purple haze" everyday (worse luck). But all those boxes called "Tube >Screamer", "Overdrive Shredder", "Metal Scrunch Distortion" etc. are >basically fuzz boxes, aren't they? No, they're not the same as fuzz boxes. You're talking about overdrive and distortion pedals, which have different sounds and circuitry from fuzz pedals. It's like comparing The Electric Prunes with Pearl Jam. I use distortion and overdrive pedals as well to play chords, since fuzz is only really good for single note lines (it can't track chords very well). >I think that virtually all lead guitar >sounds are now processed electronically, and we are so used to hearing >fuzz-type distortion that we hardly notice it any more. Lead guitar sounds have always been processed electronically (unless they were acoustic!), and what we are used to hearing these days is the homogenous, toneless "Tube Screamer"-type distortion sounds, a far cry from the fuzz boxes of the late '60s. Last summer I tried out an E-bow at a music store. It's kind of like my protype in that it's limited to one string, but it doesn't work as well and it's harder to play. Magic(so the story goes) is changes in consiousness according to will. Whose will? Well, thats the kicker, but nevertheless... Robert Graves in an early pre-WG book, talks about how the poet/musician/magician, usually grows up in a conflicted household, and in his or her person, internalizes said conflicts. Conflicts which are usually incapable of logical resolution, driving the poor sod who personifies them to seek resolution at a different level of consiousness. Hence the semi-trance state, or at least state of intenese concentration during wjich most musical(magical, etc) works are produced. Now , when we, the listenners, give ear to these concoctions, they either help us to symbolically resollve our own irrossolvable conflicts, or they leave us holding a very cold fish indeed. Hence all the illogical loves and hates of fandom, where one mans mustard is anothers mustard gas. When I listen to Mr. H, I come face to face with some of my own worst boogeymen, and , with Mr. Hs help, boogey them out of existance, leaving me less anxious, more alert, and in short happier, healthier, and a more adequate human being all around. this is good magic which increases my ability to cope. Bad magic/music, is music which traps me in my own traps, and refuses to help me figure out how to spring the locks. I am a new member to the list and this is my first posting. So, I thought I would give some general info about myself. I am a 17 year old high school senior, who has been listening to Robyn for about a year now. My favorite Robyn album is "I Often Dream of Trains." I love Robyn and all his work. I am especially fond of his influences, mainly Syd Barrett and Captain Beefheart. I joined the list to become more familiar with Robyn and his doings, that I would have not otherwise known. I also am interested in finding about some bands, so if anyone knows of any good bands, feel free to let me know. I will try to do the same. I have a question for everyone. I am looking for a live Robyn CD, and I know that it is not "Live Death". I believe it is from a concert around 1988 or so, and I think it was recorded in possibly Atlanta. Possible titles may be "Stand Back Dennis" or something of that sort. I know "Balloon Man" and songs from "Globe of Frogs" are included. Anyone with info, please let me know. I would really appreciate it. We all know of good bands. None of us will hesitate to remind you of all the good bands we know. I've touted the last 10 CD's I bought as "the best ever".... What sort of music are you looking for? Jeremy Enigk and Viva Saturn capture the darkness that you'd find in some of Syd Barrett's works, but without the disorganization. Jeremy Enigk is kinda repetetive, heavily arranged indie folk-rock. Viva Saturn is depressed 80s psychedelic for the 90s. Half of the listmembers are in bands. They're all good at it. What sort of music are you looking for? For now I'll just give you the list of Albums You Can't Go Wrong With: Beatles, Rubber Soul, Revolver Kinks: Arthur, VGPS, Something Else Monkees: Pisces Aquarius Capricorn and Jones, Headquarters, Head Squeeze: East Side Story, Sweets from a Stranger, ArgyBargy They Might Be Giants: Apollo 18 The Beach Boys: Today, Smile, Pet Sounds And any early Who or Stones...
