The first album I heard with Nick Harper was Roy's _...descendents of Smith_. An absolutely brilliant album, both musically and lyrically. Nick plays some wicked chops on an Ovation electric/acoustic that are truly awe-inspiring. In addition to its musical virtues, it is a well-engineered album; it sounds great! I used to have it, but now I can't find it. Must've lent it out and never gotten it back. Robyn told us at the Cambridge Junction gig that he plans to finish the book by the end of the year. It's supposed to come out next year, after the film and album. He didn't reveal any details about the story, or about the title. He said he knows how it ends, he just needs to find time to write. He told us that we should relay this information to the list. Perhaps Antwoman will tell us more when the newsletter comes out. Groetjes, Susan Ah yes, here's the set list for that gig. I typed this in when the list was down: Cambridge Junction Marquee, 23 august 1997 (all songs solo acoustic):: I Dream of Antwoman/ Lysander/ Serpent at the Gates of Wisdom/ Chinese Bones/ de Chirico Street/ I'm Only You/ Beautiful Girl/ Queen Elvis/ Adoration of the City/ Glass Hotel/ Each of Her Silver Wands/ The Yip Song // notes: the performance was wonderful, but unfortunately the sound system was a bit dodgy at times due to the rave going on inside the main building. i was really impressed with robyn's guitar playing on Adoration of the City; this was the first time I'd heard it. clothing: white jeans, black t-shirt with 'firefly' written on the chest. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 10:44:42 PDT From: "Eddie Tews" Subject: "Santa Claus is full of meat, tonight." autumn has hit seattle in a big way! so, if i seem in an extraordinarily happy mood from now until, well, hopefully well into april, that's why. >RH didn't even bother to introduce Scott, Peter, and Kurt (Kurt, >right?). "you know these guys, right?" actually, he *did* introduce them, as, "The Rolling Stones! Hey, did you guys know that the studio you're recording in, Ironwood, if you spell it out, it spells 'I, Ron Wood.'" after trying very hard to figure out which one it is, it finally dawned on me that it must be both: the last line in the first verse of Elizabeth Jade can be EITHER, "You will find yourself in heaven." OR, "You will find yourself unleavened." ...depending on robyn's whim on any given night. could somebody else confirm this, to make everything nice and legal? i had another one of those, i'm not worthy, i don't even deserve to be listening to this experiences last night. listening to the stone cold best version of Autumn is your last chance that i've ever heard, i not only experienced goosebumps, but twitching as well. this was followed immediately by a story so funny that i was literally incapacitated with laughter. i came very close to dropping all the plates i was carrying. you know, the world is really, really, seriously fucked up. and i really don't know how i could get along in it without robyn. eb, i hear you saying, "that's absurd." in fact, i suppose if i were to relate this to robyn himself, he'd probably tell me to fuck off. but i don't care. The videos include "Brenda With The Lightbulb Eyes", "Gotta Let This Hen Out", and the bootleg-shot "Live At The Rust Theatre (9/90)". If anyone else out there in interested, speak now or forever hold your peace. I'll take the first two fegs that respond (seeing as I only have two more blank tapes and I have to return this VCR soon). Please only respond (offlist please!) if you have some audio or video to offer as a trade. My boot list is at: http://www.spacecoast.net/users/mrrunion/bootlegs.htm See y'all... 'Firefly' is the website for fellow Warner Brothers signed (for how long?) singer-songwriter (and collaborator and buddy of Peter Buck) Mark Eitzel, formerly of the American Music Club. While I'm on this topic (and yes,it is off Robyn, I know), Does American Music Club + The Band =3D The Counting Crows? they sell millions (not that I don't like it, mind you- "Recovering" is in my cd player downstaris), and Eitzel sells, well, about as many as Robyn Hitchcock!!! I think Richard Thompson's last album (excellent!!!!) sold more than both combined! (didn't the figure 20,000 float around as sales for "Moss Elixer" on the list?) oh well, at least it's better than Warrant's last figures...
