It's possible that Dennis is the role that Robyn assumes when trying to tell a story that has sprung from actual life experiences. In "Clean Steve" & "Flesh #1" he is most likely taking on the role of Dennis in order to better narrate the song. Reg, on the other hand, is Robyn's evil twin, or, possibly his conscience. In all the songs in which he's mentioned, Robyn warns the listener about Reg, claiming no association at all to the evil side of himself: 'Please don't call me Reg, it's not my name' -- "Brenda's Iron Sledge" 'Don't go messing with a guy like Reg, he'll leave you gurgling behind the hedge.' -- "Bass" 'Ah, sock it to me Reginald!' -- "Groovin' On An Inner Plane" The line from "GOAIP" is right before the guitar solo on the vinyl IH version. I think the implication is that Robyn is being possessed by Reg, allowing him to go off on guitar -- something he wouldn't do otherwise." It's also possible that Reg is the identity Robyn assumes on the following songs: "Sleeping With Your Devil's Mask" "Executioner" "Freeze" "Old Pervert" "Trash" "I Am Not Me" "Zipper In My Spine" "Raymond Chandler Evening" An interesting sidenote: When I first bought "Black Snake Diamond Role," I thought I had found proof that Robyn's real name was "Reg". On the inside jacket, the artwork is credited to "RRH". I foolishly assumed that it stood for Robyn Reginald Hitchcock or Reginald Robyn Hitchcock or something similar. I was disappointed to learn that the second R stood for Rowan. > does anybody ever find that, when listening to robyn, it's SO good > you feel the urge to turn it off? i'm not even sure what to make of > this. it doesn't happen to me very often. but it's not all that > uncommon, either. i've never actually acted on these impulses, but > that may just be because i'm usually half way across the room when > they hit.
