Hey Noah, Thanks for de-lurking and letting us know that the tentacles of Feg-dom reach even to Isreal! I wonder how many countries the list includes (you can't always tell by the domain). Of course there is the UK and the USA, New Zealand and Canada. I know we have someone in Germany and (I think I remember) the Netherlands. The track listing for "Brenda" is: One Long Pair of Eyes, Madonna of the Wasps, Balloon Man, Raymond Chandler Evening, Brenda's Iron Sledge (live), I Often Dream of Trains, and The Man With the Lightbulb Head. I thought it was still in print, but maybe not, now that Robyn is off of A&M. FYI, the version of "Raymond Chandler" is the Ghosts Before Breakfast-esque flying hats version, not the Robyn-alone-in-the-unfurnished-room version. ...in response to: >And how the heck can I get MuchMusic to play 'em? Hmmm... I shouldn't admit this, but I've been sending requests to spot@muchmusic.com every couple of weeks for several months, trying to get them to do a half-hour "Spotlight" special on Robyn, XTC, or Nick Lowe (I don't think Nick has a half-hour's worth of videos, but what the hell, my wife likes him). I've never gotten a reply -- *not one.* (For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, "Spotlight" is a nightly video retrospective show with short interview segments, and MuchMusic is Canada's answer to MTV, or more accurately, M2, because they actually show videos occasionally.) Nevertheless I would urge everyone to e-mail these people as much as possible. Remember, that's spot@muchmusic.com. I heard a song so cool that I actually TURNED AROUND IN MY SEAT. It was by this middle-aged cat that the announcer was wetting himself telling us how great he was. That song was "Driving Aloud (Radio Storm)" and my first CD was of course 'Respect'. I like this song and another so well that I ended up getting lots of other CDs to keep it company. I live in Oxford, Mississippi and have never yet seen a Robyn Hitchcock show. It was an hour's drive to Blacksburg, VA, and an hour and a half to Roanoke, VA, where the cool record stores were, so I did a lot of mail-order record shopping in those days. I bought it not long after it came out, but wanting to hear the Robyn contribution as such got me to put the album back in rotation. And that was A Good Thing. People always rag on Dobly's two quasi-novelty hits, "She Blinded Me With Science" and "Hyperactive," but I find it difficult to dislike either. "Science" is especially fun for me -- how I remember hearing it in early '83 on the radio, and for the first few listens, never knowing what the song was going to do next! Would it be the professor exclaiming "SCIENCE!," the wall of electronic drums, a huge synth riff, or what? The guessing game went on longer than usual since there were several mixes of varying lengths being played on the radio. Also recommended is the BLINDED BY SCIENCE EP, featuring not only a long mix of "Science," but remixes (IMO superior to the GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS versions) of "One of Our Submarines," "Windpower," and several other great tracks. more off-topic fun to come... later, Miles, Rider of Rohan ------------------------------ From: "Wookie Conscious" Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 02:30:15 -0500 Subject: Re: Short 'story' did this remind anybody else of bob dylan's _Tarantula_? it reads like an imitation to me. --shane > Single queen james has been shot by a hamfisted neckbreaker in the desert. > Last night all the peasants were in mourning one of them a man of about 40 > Threw himself into his fishpond. Subject: FegMaps Countdown Hey all, Just wanted to say that I've had 31 responses so far requesting a "dot" on the upcoming FegMaps site. I've got things set up in a fairly cool format and hope to have part of the site up and running later tonight. The first map will be US/Southern Canada only, but I'm already working on maps of Europe, the Middle East, and Australia/New Zealand. Haven't been able to work the "frog-dot" concept in any sort of graphically pleasing way yet. I did download several frog graphics (Kermit, the old 'Frogger' frog, etc.), but once I shrink 'em down to size they just turn into tiny green blobs. Again, if you want a "dot", send me your name, city, email (and any other info you think appropriate) off-list. Thanks.
