Especially not in terms of its politics. Every country has its blemishes. However, I'd suggest you answer the following questions: 1) what are the rights of the original native inhabitants of the country - do they have the same rights as the settlers? What of their tribal lands - are they freely owned and as good as anywhere in the country, opr are we talking reservations? 2) what about immigrants of all races - is the proportion of each race approximately the same in all socioeconomic groups, or do you find (for example) that people of Anglo-Celto-Norman descent are disproportionately highly represented in top positions? 3) What proportion of the budget is spent on weapons that in all probability and hopefulness will never be used? What proportion goes to special government police organisations such as (for example) the CIA? What proportion of the budget goes on free health care for the needy? 4) Are all political views welcomed? If you were to form an extreme socialist party, for example, would you be put under close scrutiny by governemt agencies? [...] :Still waiting for... :Mike O'Connor, Misplaced Joan Of Arc, Noah Shalev, and Norman Parker... Hi, my name is Mike O'Connor and I live in the Detroit area. It's been two years since my last confession (on this list). My firsts: Experience: I have to thank a high school friend of mine who I've sadly lost touch with for a lot of my music sensibilities. He introduced me to a lot of music that I wouldn't have given a second though to otherwise. "Tell Me About Your Drugs", one of the Element of Light extras, was the first Robyn song I heard, though I didn't associate any particular artist with it. Later on, I saw the "Raymond Chandler Evening" video which he had recorded, taped Element of Light, and went from there... Concert: Globe of Frogs tour in Detroit at St. Andrews. I met a girl there, and we had a wonderful and silly time there, and to be honest, I don't remember too terribly much about the concert itself. I remember the crowd being very different and a whole lot mellower than who usually showed up at that venue. Robyn was in top form quip-wise, but I had a lame seat during the concert and had a hard time hearing some of him. I believe that Poi Dog Pondering opened up... Purchase: Globe of Frogs at the concert. I remember having a real hard time finding Element of Light on CD, and I wanted the extra tracks. I eventually bought that too. I've bought a few other CDs, mostly used, since. I've missed concerts I didn't want to miss because of planned travel, or I'd probably buy more. I don't travel much, but Robyn seems to have this knack for showing up when I have to be in Arizona or D.C. -- Michael J.
