Unfortunately his research failed include consulting the schedule of events at the Children's Discovery Museum or we might've been warned that thousands of t-shirt clad children from some summer camp would be invading the park (we stood our ground like the park winos we aspire to be and they eventually moved away from us, but for a brief moment I actually had to share my seat atop an iron fox with three or four of the runts). With any luck, C-spot should have quite an exhibit for his Virtual Cone Museum some time next week, featuring the cones of Winkworth, Gloster, Reynolds and Clark in various candid poses. You wouldn't believe the grief I get from people trying to find stuff in my collection (which is quite large). Due to pressure of space my sections kind of run into each other and there are transitions where crossover artists hang out (country-folk-blues-jazz..). Confuses people no end, but like you, I know exactly where to find anything I'm asked for. All this talk of alphabetizing and keeping an index is starting to make me feel queasy... BTW, the guitar Boogie is under, C (although i can swear it used to b under B not 2 long ago) all the best - NOE ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jun 1997 11:15:45 -0700 From: mrrunion@tng.net (Runion, Michael R.) Ahh, but there's a wrinkle: The Rykodisc reissues all say "Frank Zappa" on the spine, not "Mothers." So nowadays, I have all Zappa schtuff filed under "Z" and don't feel guilty about it. I can't believe this thread keeps enduring! ;) But while I'm here, I'll just say: alphabetical, individual artists' albums are chronological, various-artists and soundtracks at the end (in that order). CDs, I have so many and such limited bedroom space that I actually have a "B-play" section of about 150 discs which are sort of behind other discs and not easily accessible. The other 1200 or so discs are squirreled in about four different locations: on the dresser, in the closet, under the bed, in the cabinet.... And my "weeded out" pile is almost as large, and is stacked in eight boxes in the middle of the floor. Yikes! Oh, and I keep all the non-album CD5s, etc. separate, and I file all Foetus-related material together (Wiseblood, Clint Ruin/Lydia Lunch, Steroid Maximus, Pig...) and all Beatles-related material together (band, solo albums, campy muzak cover records like "Moog Plays The Beatles"). Used to do that with Wire, but don't anymore. Oh yeah, I file Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe under "Yes." For the record, I think Mike's museum is the most fun fan-based thing I've seen on the web. Everybody on this list in possession of a cone simply MUST contribute. Make the VCM grow! Currently, Mike's own personal cone is the earliest example of Robyn's ConeArt™ in the museum from back when they were still being numbered. It's #34, so I suspect some of the other early numbered ones exist on this list somewhere. For example, if I recall correctly, Gary Parker used to call himself Cone #12! So, let's see a cone with some CANDY on it. One of those candy-adorned cones needs to be documented! C'mon, you early cone purchasers (and all others as well), your cone deserves better than to just sit on your shelf. Immortalize it!
