Aside from a couple of turnips growing out of my kneecaps, I still feel reasonably normal. Anyway: I might be stating the obvious here, but doesn't it seem that since we're going to be *wearing* the shirt, the quote should be "I might be a fiend" or even just "possible fiend", rather than "they might be fiends"? That would at least remove the central objection, which is that it sounds like "They Might Be Giants" (a fine film, that). What would be *really* funny would be simply the word "F I E N D S" done up to look like the logo in the opening credits of the horrendous tee-vee show "Friends," but unfortunately this would make it less feg-oriented and also less appropriate for those lucky fegs in other countries who aren't subjected to American television. As for the graphic, a while back a fellow named Doug (DougMash@aol.com: Are you out there?) e-mailed me, and several others presumably, a *self-portrait* Robyn had scribbled for him at an autograph signing. It looks kind of fiendish, so perhaps Doug won't mind if we used it, assuming The Man Himself doesn't want to contribute something special just for us. If I get a chance I'll mock this up and send it over to TC to be posted. ...Other stuff: Jeff Vaska wrote: >My favorite favorite favorite all time movies are... >1 - Fitzcaraldo >2 - THX1175 (dir. Bands usually become important by 1) discovering the cure for a horrible disease, 2) being the first humans to set foot on another planet, 3) negotiating a permanent end to a major war, or 4) inventing ice cream. Of course, since no band has ever done any of these things (with the possible exception of Motley Crue, who by breaking up inadvertently discovered the cure for the disease known as "Motley Crue"), no band could possibly be considered important. Hey, the man got tired of making records nobody would buy and playing gigs nobody went to. Buster started out as a one-off joke but then just snowballed. At the Detroit show, May 22, both Robyn and Steve kept asking me about the feg list...if I enjoyed it, what I posted about, what I liked reading about, and if I'd ever met anyone from the list. Steve was curious as to how people discovered Robyn...so I'd be forever greatful to anyone who would like to e-mail me, and tell me about their first RH experience, their first album purchase, their first RH concert, and where they live. I'm hoping to put together a package to send to Steve around the middle of July... So get you responses to me by July 14th...I don't know how many people subscribe to the list but I bet it's a heck of a lot more than 13! I have receieved 'RH firsts' from David Baker, Carole Reichstein, Ed Doxtator, Gary Sedgwick, Gene Hopstetter, Jr., Griffith Davies, Hal Brandt, Jeff Rosedale, Ken Frankel, Mike Godwin, Mark Wettreich, Susan Even, and our humble servent woj... ****** I've just finished catching up with the last 12 digests... Some people have expressed that they'd like a t-shirt design from Robyn, others stated that the list is about the thoughts and opinions of those who subscribe, and the design should come from within. I would certainly be delighted, honoured in fact, to ask Robyn and Steve about the t-shirts, but do the the majority of fegs wish me to do so? And of course, our fearless woj has already gotten this process under way...so woj...you should let me know if you'll be handling the Robyn side of things, or if you want me to put in a request as well... I guess I'll read all about it in Feg #143. ****** For the t-shirt... I like Robyn's quote: "If I Want To Know What I'm Up To...I Know Where To Look" My other suggestions would be - "When I Was Dead I Wasn't Interested In Sex" "Love On Ya Baby" - (hi susan :)) "I Got A Message For You" "It's A Sideways Glance In A Full-On World" "I'm Not Afraid To Be The Only Person On The Planet" "What Scares You Most Will Set You Free" "What Is Fegmania" - (this quote might be appropriate as the line above the URL) or as Gene said, if this was printed on a green t-shirt - "I Wouldn't Mind Dressing In Green If I Thought That You'd Understand What I Mean" Red hasn't been mentioned as a shirt colour: it could be fun considering RH's fondness for tomatoes ;) The quote could be "Got A Ripe Tomato Here In Ecstasy" :) ***** And finally...if anyone else wants to trade for the Detroit show...let me know...Hal Brandt and Michael Brage have intitiated me into the wonderful world of tape trading and I like it :) fading back into yesterday before tomorrow comes, Randi *what scares you most will set you free* - Robyn Hitchcock p.s. I have a feeling that the Coptic language used in the Egyptian Church is derived from Ancient Egyptian - but the Coptic Church is on the way out. And presumably it would stand in the same relation as Italian to Latin... Egyptian writing certainly started off with no vowels, like Hebrew, but my authentic Ancient Egyptian T-shirt has some feather things to stand in for the vowels, so they must have developed them at some time before April 1997.
