I wasn't sure if you were there at that moment or not. After all, you did miss that mysterious comment between "Airscape" and "Freeze". Ok, it bothered me at the time, and it bothers me now, because I swear it's familiar and maybe someone here can place it. Roughly it went like this: "Two years later and blood spilled on the floor. Nice one." What on earth? Hal thought it might be a reference to the Isle of Wight festival. I wish I'd asked him about it. But then there are a lot of things I wished I'd gotten the chance to say to him. Oh well, perhaps another time (right!). Even when I actually did have the floor and his attention I doubt I made a whole lot of what you might call coherent sense, I was way too nervous. In the middle of telling that little Dylan anecdote I froze up for a brief second when I realized that I was telling this to ROBYN HITCHCOCK. Kind of like discussing God with Jesus :). Very unnerving. > There was also a funny moment when someone near us was yelling for a song > (can't remember which) and Robyn cocked his head and said, "Baseball?" What > tune was it? I don't know, I didn't catch it. Didn't sound to me like "baseball" at all, but it definitely -started- with a B. Anyone? I can't think of any Robyn songs offhand that are one word starting with B. Could you repeat said story?? Also, the level of comment about the Chicago show is at a level I find disgusting and offensive. If you are going to go to a Robyn show, please just report what songs were played and that you had a pleasant time. There is no need to GLOAT about how "I ate prawns with Robyn" or other such stuff. I had some of the same feelings. I thought it was because I had listened to a lot of '97 shows on tape leading up to the Chicago show, but the set seemed real routine to me. As much as I like Tim (see below), the Deni shows were more transcendent. Also, dropping the format of the first leg of this tour (book readings, stage props) and not replacing them with anything makes it appear as if this leg is an afterthought or, as you suggest, a contractual obligation. > I also really dig Tim I'm really starting to warm up to Tim. His persona seems to match Robyn's. I can see why they are friends. Besides, Tim's presence may just have the effect of offsetting Robyn's cynicism toward the record biz as Robyn gets to mentor the "Beautiful Homer" and rediscover why he started down this road in the first place. > Any Robyn, even lackluster Robyn, is better than most anything in the entire > world of art. Well, I can't tell it like Robyn, obviously.
