Go Nick! I'm suprised that no one thought of that earlier :). Damn. Anyway, I was wondering something. Listening to "Invisible Hits" today my ear was caught by the alternate version of "Betty" for the first time. I've had this CD for a couple years now but I never listened closely to the alternate versions before, oddly enough. I was wondering if there is a transcription of this version's lyrics. What I can make out sounds intriguingly smutty (to quote the same Tom Lehrer song for the second time today "Smut! Give me smut and nothing but!" :)). Sad, sad obsessive that I am, when I saw the CD single of K&TW's Eurovision song I just had to buy it. The song 'Love Shine A Light' is not bad, better than most of Britain's previous entries so it probably has a good chance of winning, which will do Kimberley's bank balance a lot of good. The other song on the cd is also a Kimberley composition ('Spiderman'). I prefer 'Spiderman' myself, but it's not bland enough for Eurovision. Not that 'Love Shine A Light' is bland, but it is nowhere near the standard of 'Walking on Sunshine'. ObRobyn - I'm trying to gain another convert to the cause, loaned him the Greatest Hits CD and a promo CD that has a couple of tracks from each of the Rhino rereleases. In return, he's trying to interest me in the Throwing Muses. Enough rambling, back to lurking again. I was perusing the CD single rack of the local Poppy's after work two nights ago and came across the new Son Volt CD priced as a $3.99 single. The fools! Of course I had to buy it...another punch in the gut of the greedy CD making overpricing swine. I'm convinced that this is not a coincidence because i got Sebadoh's BAKESALE the same way at Camelot a few years back. Anyone else experience this? Yes, a fine story. However, I will try I keep this dirty business in the wings from now on... Thanks to Eb for the natalie story. I suspect that she does have sense of humor somewhere. To pruodly claim you're from jamestown proves that. There is such slavish devotion to her here. I recal a couple of my friends telling me that they were backstage after a concert at the college some years back and they drank the remainder of her tea from a paper cup and took the cup as a memento... Glad I got some agreement on The Smiths. Gosh...I recall my summer teenage years spent think that they were gods, and how pissed i was when they split up...I used to easily declare them as my all- time favorite band/act but they've probably been supplanted by Robyn, partly because he's still going. Susan says to not forget Johnny Marr and she's right but I don't think he's done anything really distinguished since they split, asside from some good work with Billy. Electronic was fluff...Moz has been awefully spotty himself and I tend to think of him as pretty much finished. But then, I said the same thing after KILL UNCLE, and YOUR ARSENAL was splendid, so... Quail (the Great one) was so on about der Smiths. One of the most misinterpreted bands ever. There is some real dour feeling there but you have to be blind to not Morrissey having a huge, classic laugh at the expense of everyone, including himself. I don't own a Dylan record, that's what I meant. bad choice of phrase, probably. However, my ex-hippie future father-in-law owns many of them on vinyl, and I've tried to turn him on to Robyn by leaving, say, FEGMANIA in my tape deck when he borrows my car. He did listen to it and like it and was amused. There i go peddling Feg again. I thought I had it beat. They say you can't be a user if you're a dealer...back to the clinic for me. And...er...I quite like Crichton. SPHERE, CONGO, JP, and ANDROMEDA...were great reads. Sure, they're completely disposable but they're entertaining anyhow. Perhaps I'm just easy to please. Mississippi Malcolm McDowal may be pleased to not THE DROWNED WORLD sits on me overstacked night-stand, next in line. It'll be my first Ballard book. Hi all, Now I would have guessed that The Great Ray was Man Ray, which has been discussed here before--around the time that Bee Man Ray was a tentative title for Moss Elixer. I finally saw a few Man Ray pieces when I visited New York about a month ago--at the Museum of Modern Art. This is not a challenge to Ray being Robyn's Dad, just an observation. Anyway, I have missed out on all sorts of threads of late, so at least let me make a few comments. To the person who liked the latest Number One Cup CD: keep an eye out for a CD by The Multiple Cat (their one and only CD release, I believe, called "Territory" Shall Mean the Universe). Its in a similar sort of vein, but in more of a middle ground tempo-wise, and with a little more groove than Number One Cup. I picked up the latest Knapsack fairly recently too, which is a bit less varied, but works well for its genre. Most underrated/ignored band must go to the Wedding Present. I know they have been around for a while and are not without their supporters, but I am consistently impressed by the intensity David Gedge musters, along with the lack of any mainstream attention to them. Are there any fans of them on this list? Their latest CD "Saturnalia" is well worth checking out, although its on a smaller distribution label, making it a bit harder to find (Cooking Vinyl, I believe is the label).
