I'm currently near Santa Rosa CA. I'd really like to get the stuff I can't get back home, i.e. nearly everything, but especially live stuff, oh, and ML if I can get it. I've seen 76-81 for $23 in Best Buy. Does that seem reasonable? Mail me off list if you have suggestions (clean ones please). Glen, where are the good s/hand record stores? I'm not about to sit down, ignore my busy schedule, and type out the whole article - I'll leave that to a kind (and bored) Feg out there. However, this bit of info may be of interest to fellow musicians out there: the guitar tuning for "Heliotrope:" F G C G C E I haven't tried it yet, but I'll farting around with it this evening. At the moment, we need all instruments except keyboards and vocals. As the aim is to have an early-period Kinks type raw sound, enthusiasm is much more important than experience. Be warned that, at least at the outset, there will be _very little creative input_ from musicians. Any replies or questions, please send to me at am@enterprise.net. (If you aren't, well..... sorry... but hello nevertheless). Just wanted to chime in on the Peake ref. I read somewhere (think it was a "Dark Birds" mailout by Sandi/Trudi) -- long ago -- that one of RH's fave authors was Peake. I found a copy of his _Mr. Pye_ in a used bookstore in Waco, Texas, and I found it to be riveting, insightful, imaginative and oh so thought-provoking. All in all, a superb piece of fiction. I think I may have posted this on the list a couple of years ago, but I am convinced that RH got some song lyrics from _Pye_. Particularly, I'm thinking of the lines in "September Cones" and in "Speed of Things" which refer to a person "growing wings" then "horns". Check it out -- it's in there... May they never find out it's really me... Jim Morrison, Former Door and Present Robyn fan guambat@juno.com "his brain is squirming like a toad" -- (reptile reference).... Just two hours ago I finished listening to the second radio play adapted from Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books - it has Sting playing the role of Steerpike. It's great! The guy has almost as wild an imagination as the Man himself, and some of that vivid, bizarre imagery had me thinking of Happy the Golden Prince.
