(my husband and Robyn also have some British connections in common so there was a bit of that, too)I don't regret naming my son Robyn BUT I will tell you this: if you live in the US and are thinking of doing it, be prepared to explain to almost everyone who doesn't know you that your child is a boy and be prepared for a lot of junk mail addressed to "Ms. Robyn xxxx"!!! My family gives us grief, sometimes, too. When we looked at Robyn through the window in NY last week, he looked over at us and the production guys on the stage behind RH came over to the window and were paying my Robyn some attention. It was nice to show my son the man who inspired his "y"!! Maybe some day they'll get to meet.....if RH ever decides to actually play Noho..... Subject: NO robyn content delete now or be forced to read this message! hey-- my head is (as most placed in this state) an unusual place at times. and to show this, i shall ask this one question. sitting here a cover was on the radio of a song dear to my heart, although i cannot remember the band who originally recorded it. the tune is "kim the waitress". ring any bells, circa 1986-ish? all i can remember is a fog of the waitress who only she can save us during that period when there was still 'indie' and robyn was the number one post-modern artist. thanks, .chris (who is hoping susan is out there at this moment to answer me like she always does in some amazingly syncronized [sp?] way) ------------------------------ Date: 17 Dec 1996 00:14:45 U From: "David Kwan" Subject: covers [On Sun, 15 Dec 1996, Ferris wrote:] >Also a single from last year or so (I'm not sure of the A-side) that has = >a cover of a Psychedelic Furs tune. Current candidates: 1) Gloss Fish. (A compilation of material by fegbands. This has been started and *will* be finished. We are currently waiting for the Modern Lizard Quartet to finish recording.. If anyone else wants to be involved, please email me) 2) Spoken Word Tape Tree [90 minutes of Robyn's best stories. If anyone is interested in submitting anything to this, please email me. May or may not include the Moose Mark story] 3) A compilation of all the post-Elixer songs and some rarities. 4) The first Egyptians gig and BBC session. So...I'm definitely going to do #1. If anyone would like to see me organize any of the other ones into trees, please email me. As far as I know, 'Kim The Waitress' was originally sung by Material Issue, who brought to the table other favs such as 'Diane', 'Valerie Loves Me' and an oozing cover of 'Turning Japanese' with Liz Phair. Last year, the lead singer, Jim Ellison committed suicide via Carbon Monoxide. That's my Chicago trivia for the day. Pronounce it like the fish or the instrument -- we do. Oddly enough, it (when pronounced like the song, ale or fish) was my mother-in-law's maiden name and also (with the long a) my father-in-law's instrument. I think all of your ideas for the tape trees are good ones, Terry! I do have one reservation though...what is your equipment like? The seed of the tree should be of only the highest quality in order to insure that all the leaves at the bottom of the tree get a great sounding dub at the end, not a hiss-filled disappointment. Preserving the quality of sound after all the hard work of compiling and dubbing should be a priority. So, I must ask...is your equipment the right stuff for the job, or should we continue to let one of our DAT fegs provide the seeds? Any thoughts from any other tapers? hal ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Dec 1996 10:45:16 -0600 (CST) From: Truman Peyote Subject: Re: NO robyn content delete now or be forced to read this message! Why yes, of course I know that one. "Kim The Waitress", by Chicago's own Material Issue. Their story is a rather tragic one, which I believe I posted something about a couple months ago, so I won't go into it here (it's in October's digest, I believe, if you're curious). They were quite talented. > thanks, > .chris (who is hoping susan is out there at this moment to answer me > like she always does in some amazingly syncronized [sp?] way) Fortunately you asked a question I knew the answer to! Nope. Live Death was culled from live recordings, and the A&M covers tapes is a (sortof) authorized copy of a tape made by Scott Carter, an A&M A&R guy (who's also responsible for the A&M Greatest Hits collection CD), who sat Robyn down in front of a mic with a DAT machine and had him record a few covers for a possible release (which of course never materialized). Two different entities altogether. Sorry, can't remember all the Live Death tracks off the top of my head, but it definitely has a long and rollicking "Clean Steve" ("Brucie baby, why'd you steal my food? 'Cause Robyn you suck") and "A Day In The Life". __________________________________________________ Gene Hopstetter, Jr. +++ Internet Publishing Specialist E-DOC +++ http://www.edoc.com/ Voice: (410) 691-6265 +++ Fax: (410) 684-2788 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Dec 1996 16:42:50 -0500 From: sister ernestine Subject: Re: misc also sprach hollie_satterfield@mail.amsinc.com: > My friend's wife is named Robyn, does that count? only if your friend (or you) renamed her after the ceremony. +w ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Dec 1996 16:49:40 -0500 From: sister ernestine Subject: Re: Next Tape Tree also sprach Terrence M Marks : >3) A compilation of all the post-Elixer songs and some rarities. perhaps this tape could be combined with this fall's mountain stage and e-town performances? i don't have e-town yet, but mountain stage was successfully dubbed sunday night (came out good, but i recorded it in mono to avoid the stereo hiss; has anyone else recorded this?). e-town isn't on around here, so someone else would have to provide the source for that one. >[I know..you're probably too busy with Christmas to think of tapes...] not as of last night! woo hoo! woj n.p. unhatched crabblings (thanks to all involved!) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Dec 1996 16:22:53 -0600 From: mbrage@surgery.bsd.uchicago.edu (Michael Brage) Subject: Next Tape Tree Terrence Marks suggests: >A compilation of all the post-Elixer songs and some rarities and sister ernestine adds: >>perhaps this tape could be combined with this fall's mountain stage and >>e-town performances?
