Apparently, when he was in town last week, he recorded this version exclusively for this program. Robyn sang the song in a low voice with acoustic guitar. In the middle, he goofs a chord and supresses a laugh. Very similar to his chuckle in De Chirico Street. Very complex guitar work closes the song. Lovely!!!!!!!!!! Oops!!! You're right Jay - my mistake - never knew that was the opening (I thought it was something like "I live forever" or something). But I'd have to say that is my least favourite song of all the ones he's ever done - so I didn't share your feelings w.r.t him playing this live (as you could tell I'd rather him play HSTYOA ). Has anyone been to shows at the Orpheum lately? Or better yet, has anyone ever done any taping at the Orpheum? I'm debating whether or not to bring my recorder to the show. I'm pretty sure it is a large venue, and so the sound quality that ends up on my tape would not be great. But more importantly, the Sony D6 I tape with is rather large. If security is frisking or doing patdowns ("hey is that a D6 in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?"), they'll find it. Most gigs I've been to lately haven't been too militant, but the Vic in Chicago sounds like an awful place to try to tape. If you have info, please share it with me. Mr Rock and Roll Kennel Club, San Francisco 5/21/91 Yeah, it had a formal release on _Y&O_ and was also on both previous fan compilations. But this version kicks the crabmeat out of the studio mix. 2. The Angel Upstairs McCabe's Guitar Shop, Santa Monica 7/18/87 This one is a favorite- really nice. Robyn now claims to have forgotten it. 3. Rabbit Train The Backstage, Seattle 5/1/93 4. The Vomiting Cross Kennel Club, SF 5/21/91 5. A Most Peculiar Voice Lady Mitchell Hall, Cambridge UK 11/27/78 It appears cut off at the beginning, please let me know if you know of a more complete rendition. (Soft Boys) 6. Cherry-Red Daughter The Ark, Ann Arbor MI 4/15/95 Well, at least the sound quality is good 7. Messages of Dark Diamond Club, Toronto 10/16/90 Robyn did this medley a few months earlier at McCabe's as well (5/90). Those are the only two times I know of him playing MoD live. 8. Weasel Turned His Back WHFS, Omega Studios Rockville MD 1/7/96 side 2 starts ~28:00 9. Dark Globe (Barrett) Maxwells, Hoboken NJ 7/28/88 A book about Pink Floyd claimed that RH played this one often, as well as (i think) Arnold Layne and Bike, but this is the only time I know of him doing DG (i know he's done gigolo aunt, wolfpack and octopus, but he claims elsewhere on this tape that he doesn't know the chords to octopus). 10. The Feelers was Everywhere KCRW's Brave New World, 3/18/96 Robyn explains before playing this one that about 4 am at the last New Year's Party, this phrase surfaced. This was a tentative title for Moss Elixir, as was "Bee Man Ray" and others. 22. Brain Death Rough Trade Records, SF 4-29-93 You'll note that this is seemingly a prototypical take of a Moss Elixir track. Great ambient ending. 23. Shadowcat McCabe's, 9/22/95 (late set) 24. Surfer Ghost Demo (Egyptians) (94/95?) 25. Snow Strike WHFS Cafe, December 1990 Robyn explains afterwards that "Delmarva" is an amalgam of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Probably learned the secret from Cynthia, a Virginia native and student at UVA 26. I Thought I Saw Julian Cope McCabe's, 5/25/90 (late set) Seems the fans are trying to redirect the stream of consciousness. side 4 starts 1:30 27. Consider Me Gone KUSF, 10/5/89 A setlist grabbed by an opening act around this time featured this title, though this song has been known by other names. DAT people note: there are not start-id's before tracks 26 and 27 for some reason, thus all succeeding tracks are mis-numbered on the tape. 28. It All Adds Up KROQ "LoveLines" 9/8/91 This was provided on the spot to a young listener who feared he was masturbating excessively. 29. The Fortunate Son Club Quattro, Shibuya Tokyo 11/10/93 Any information on this one would be much appreciated. 36. Waterloo Sunset (Kinks) Paradise Lounge SF 3/11/89 A so-so rendition, but great song 37. Send Him Some Dentures KROQ "LoveLines" 9/8/91 Improv advice for a listener whose ex-boyfriend began tarnishing her image after she inadvertently injured him slightly with her braces 38. Queers for Jesus McCabe's 5/5/91 (late set) 39. Sin City (G Parsons) McCabe's 5/5/91 (late set) I didn't intend for these two to be next to each other by design. Good takes though, and Andy alternates vocals on the latter and plays bass.
