James ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Oct 1996 22:43:29 -0400 From: sister ernestine Subject: new show ticketmaster is now listing a show on november 17th at the charleston civic center in west virginia. robyn is listed as opening for donovan. i'm guessing that this is a rescheduled date for a mountain stage taping. i have not heard that the taping on the 13th was cancelled, but it would seem likely given the cancelled maxwell's and iron horse gigs. wasn't someone from the list going to the taping on the 13th? did robyn perform? woj ------------------------------ From: RxBroome@aol.com Date: Wed, 16 Oct 1996 23:57:09 -0400 Subject: Maisie on "Y&O"... Is she supposedly on there between all the tracks? This kind of thing is most irritating. Those of us (if it isn't ALL of us) whose hearing has been eroded by too much live music NEVER hear these kinds of things, however great the digital reproduction is. Sonic Youth's last album reportedly was mastered on a tape that once housed their 1986 LP "Sister", and the rumor was that you could hear the entire "Sister" LP between all the tracks. Honestly, if you've been to enough SY shows to qualify as a "fan", you can't hear shit between the tracks of anyone's records. I choose to view all such rumors as apocryphal, since it would be way too easy to descend into headphone hell in the pursuit of all-knowing nerdiness... to the further detriment of my already-battered hearing. Blah blah blah... Rexy Stardust ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Oct 1996 00:08:15 -0400 From: Alex Tanter Subject: Boston show Well, we broke down and bought tickets for the Orpheum. I don't think the Iron Horse show will ever happen. We're in row Q, orchestra. Anyone know where that is? (we can't get internet graphics on our computer so can't look at the Orpheum's map on their web site). Are there any western Mass. fegs going? Rex, Rex, Rex.........no need for the profanity, dearest :). The fact that one is not an ardent Bragg fan doesn't mean that one shares the views of Pat Robertson necessarily :). Take myself, for example- I'm left everything but handed (guess that means I'm quite sinister :)), and I can just manage to tolerate B.B. but that's about it. (on the Proclaimers and some other stuff) > sinister again or you'll get a pitcher of something foamy in your face :)." > > Not that I wouldn't love to share a pitcher of anything with you, Susan, or > much less have something foamy contact my face courtesy of your own lovely > self (could be I'm begging for just that :), ) OH BABY! Sounds shatteringly lovely :). > but... ain't "Sunshine & > Leith" a Proclaimers record? Knowing those guys to be twins, are they really > both named "Reid"? If so, why isn't there a more public rivalry between them > and the Jesus & Mary Chain for the title of "pop music's 'Reid Bothers'"? > (Won't even bring the "Reed" factor into this...) Yes, they are in fact twins, and twins named Reid to boot. What I can't figure out about them is that they look like identical twins, but one of them is a bit shorter than the other- or so it seems from the pictures I've seen. Anyway..........didn't know there was any sort of competition for that title. How does that kind of thing get decided, anyway? Does it have to be decreed by Nick Kent or something? :) And the postscript: > PS: just commandeered a party at which the Monty Python "Rex Stardust/Toad > the Wet Sprocket" bit was played ad nauseum. There was much confusion about it, though. Up until the day before the show Ticketmaster still claimed he would be there. I got to see a nice (Hickman-less, unfortunately) Cracker set so it was still a very enjoyable evening.
