Goldmine has Uncle Bobby on the front this month. Contains: Bio (from Maureen and the Meatpackers to Moss Elixer. Most of it is standard feg knowlege/has been taken verbatim from liner notes, but it's still a good thing to have.) 2 glowing reviews of Moss Elixer The "Well, hope he'll break through *this* time" message that's been put with IODOT, Fegmania, EoL, Perspex Island, QUeen Elvis and Respect. Photos of RH with trademark bad haircut. Apart from that, GOldmine is a bad magazine. The ads make it nearly impossible for anyone to find what they're looking for. Their posters announce: "Free Beer, Friday, 7pm at Eponymous Theatre" Of course, several people turn out to hear what usually is a very interesting show, however disappointed they may be to know that they have been duped. I always wanted to form a band called Naked Co-Eds and somehow share a bill with Free Beer. Now, what do you think the response would be to a marquee that announces: "Free Beer and Naked Co-Eds, Tonight Only!"? Don't answer that... --g ______________________________________________________ "What you get is all real, I can't put on an act. Trying to work out "Y&O", I was convinced it was sung in D, too, but I wasn't getting the proper "drone" until I tuned my low E-string down to a "D". Bobsyeruncle-- there 'twas. I also happened to be playing it through the same types of chorus pedal and Fender Twin amp that Robyn was using when I first saw him do "Y&O" at McCabe's last year. And yahr, sounds the same as that cavernous guitar on the lesser "Queen Elvis". These revelations were divinely inspired by the Beautiful Queen. Robyn also strums this song ("Y&O") in a mighty weird circular pattern, so that each strum you hear is alternately over the pickups and then about at the base of the neck. Because I know you care. Misheard lyrics, but Robyn-related: from "Lysander"-- "into the bureau she rambles / tethered by dead bones". Oh, come on, it sounds Robyn-y! A friend convinced me about the "headphones" bit, but I couldn't convince him about Anubis-- at least I had that one right. Here's something: Kay: "> Years later the edyptians played the Troc here in Philly. they did an > acapella version of Heaven which sent the goosebumps marching up my > spine. While , in the intrest of financial solvency, I eschew > rarieties and such--does anybody have a tape of that preformance? > If not in Philly, somewhere else along the line? " M. Godwin: "Would this by any chance be the 'bonus' version on the 'Element of Light' CD? I got no response when I asked where that performance was recorded. Probably not, because there is a guitar in there somewhere." Also, it's not "Heaven", it's "Airscape". It gots a tambourine, too, but Kay's right about the goosebumps. The liner notes don't say where it was recorded. (Just trying to be useful after the severe embarassment of mixing up my Belushis.) >From the Incomparable Goddess: "Reminds me of the time I saw Johnathan Richman and Guest. Guest turned out to be a very sensitive plant who performed acoustic Beatles covers to the audience's cavernously yawning indifference." She does have a way with words, eh? The words "very sensitive plant" reminded me of those plastic flowers with sunglasses and guitars which gyrate in a sound-activated manner to music in card shops. Which might perhaps make a more-interesting-than-average opening act in a pinch... BTW, recently saw a photo of the Plaster Casters "with Jimi Hendrix, center". But what was actually in the center wasn't precisely, er, Jimi as such, so to speak. Because I know you care. So that's what he's doing! I've been having trouble attempting to play that one, and now I know at least one reason why. All this is making me think, and I'm curious to know if anyone has tabbed any of these beauties (from ME) out. Those of us who still use tabs :) would be mighty appreciative if any of these made it to the list. Especially "Heliotrope", which I am just NOT getting at all. >>From the Incomparable Goddess: >"Reminds me of the time I saw Johnathan Richman and Guest. Which might perhaps make >a more-interesting-than-average opening act in a pinch... Definitely :). Thinking now about where I picked up that phrase, "sensitive plant". I wish I could say I got it from the Shelley poem of the same title, but unfortunately I think I picked it up from a Rolling Stone reviewer who used it to describe Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins. >BTW, recently saw a photo of the Plaster Casters "with Jimi Hendrix, center". > But what was actually in the center wasn't precisely, er, Jimi as such, so >to speak. Cynthia P. C. is quite proud of Jimi. She claims it is the biggest mold in her collection. Apparently he wasn't as good in bed as those dashing fellows from Procol Harum, though. Nice to know they're good at SOMETHING. And finally, in response to Glen's post about band names: A former roommate of mine who is Mr. Serious Prog Rock keyboardist extrordinaire (yes, it WAS fun to listen to him run through keyboard and vocal scales all the damned time :)) decided that he wanted to rename his band (which was kind of a good idea......I mean really, would YOU be filled with panting desire to see a band called G.U.T.?). I suggested the name you mentioned, Free Beer, which really irritated him deeply because he is a SERIOUS MUSICIAN (my next suggestion was not Naked Co-eds, though- I think it was something like Topless Titty Swingers). Sometimes one wishes that certain people weren't so easy to provoke, because with individuals of this stripe it's that much more tempting to do so :). You have now come to the end (whew!) of another long and admittedly self-indulgent post from Susan P.S. To the person whom it may concern- the third from last song on Avalon I hereby dedicate to you :).
