Since it's an official response from a company, I don't THINK it's a violation of netiquette. If so, somebody set me straight. QUICK ASIDE ON VIOLINS: Am I the only one old enough to remember Sugar Cane Harris (did I get that right?) and Jean-Luc Ponty's work with the Mothers? And how about David LaFlamme in It's a Beautiful Day? I'll admit I can only remember one song they did, (White Bird) although I have the album somewhere in my collection. Psychedelic, with Welsh lyrics, and a Brian Wilson influence. Their most recent album (and the only one I've seen for sale in the states) is Bwyd Time. And they have a violinist. I don't have my copy of the CD here though, so I can't tell you her name. Queen Bitch? Hunky Dory? I was just listening to that album last week. In light of that I guess it'd be pretty embarassing if my guess is wrong. BTW, don't recall ever hearing of Robyn crediting Bowie as an influence, but I notice a lot of the same head movements when he's playing and singing, I find Robyn's vocal style to be *very* similar to Bowie's early 70's sound. "Wax Doll" in particular sounds to me like it belongs on "The Man Who Sold The World"...I'd love to hear Robyn play something obscure from one of those old Bowie albums some time. To the best of our collective knowledge has RH ever coved Bowie live ? -russ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jul 1996 14:11:28 -0400 (EDT) From: Bayard Subject: the CD yet again (no violin content) it has come to my attention that for the cost of about 85 CDR cd's, we could purchase 1000 "glass master" cd's.... plus color booklet and printing on the cd itself. I don't know what I'd do with that many, but please get your orders in so i can see if i can justify spending over $1000 on this. 73 minutes, 19 tracks, fellow listmembers, vic chesnutt, proceeds to robyn. send $20/each disc, you know the drill by now Bayard Catron 5905 Greentree Road Bethesda, MD 20817 USA ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jul 1996 14:26:21 -0400 (EDT) From: Bayard Subject: Re: Bowie > BTW, don't recall ever hearing of Robyn crediting Bowie as an influence, but > I notice a lot of the same head movements when he's playing and singing, I > find Robyn's vocal style to be *very* similar to Bowie's early 70's sound. > "Wax Doll" in particular sounds to me like it belongs on "The Man Who Sold > The World"...I'd love to hear Robyn play something obscure from one of those > old Bowie albums some time. Parsons recorded the song on his _Grievous Angel_ album and Emmylou Harris later did a version of it on her _Elite Hotel_ album. It's a great song that includes all the elements of self-destruction: gambling, alcohol and prostitution (at least, prostitution of oneself). I know stuff like this because I'm a closet country-rock fan. My apologies to Russ for the duplicate message. I picked up a extra copy of the UK "My Wife And My Dead Wife" UK CD, with bonus tracks "I Something You," "Zipper In My Spine," and "Man With A Womans Shadow" so if youve still not been able to find this item, $10 gets it to your door (if you live in the US or Canada). Also if youre looking for the Aftermath CD of _Black Snake Diamond Role_, $15 gets that to your North American door. Trade offers will also be considered.
