Haven't seen any more pass through since, but given the list interest in it, I'll be happy to offer it at cost + postage if I do happen upon it again. Two quick related notes: 1) _Alvin_ IS quite an entertaining album -- Lush doing "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep," the 14 Iced Bears doing "Summer Nights" with a male vocalist doing both parts gender references intact, the Close Lobster's marvellous take on "Float On" (a song my wife and I had been trying to remember the title of for months prior to buying _Alvin_), really not a bad cover in the bunch... 2) How much does anyone know about the non-Robyn folk on this album? Aside from Lush and the Close Lobsters, I'm not sure if I recognize any of the other performers. 3) There's a LOT of Midnight Music stuff showing up in the bargain racks this year, a lot of it for a mere $1 at Camelot. Anyone looking for McCarthy's _I Am a Wallet_? Plenty of 'em here... (ntsc) thanks to kay for making it possible for me to hear side one of the new album. (and for some killer iced tea). my impression of it is that it will, at least for me, be a religious listening experience unlike anything since _eye_ (maybe even since _element_). i believe kay put it best: simple and sublime. sinister and devil's radio are well done and i get the idea they will be more enjoyable over time (even though i've heard them so many times already in live form). heliotrope is good but i feel 'silver wands' would be better in its place for some reason. alright yeah doesn't work for me in this context. it's the bouncy band version and doesn't seem to fit with the more serious songs. finally, filthy bird and speed of things are incredible! the former gives the feeling of sweeping grey archetexture and blood stained glass. the latter is indescribably great-- for those who have not heard it on live tapes (tipitina's 92 i believe, for example) i've transcribed the lyrics below. if you want to wait for the album and keep your karma clean, delete now. i am pretty sure i know what this is all about but will refrain from nano-analyzing until we all have the cd. in the terror of the moment that pounces as it open swings a line of dots illuminated for i have seen the speed of things i fed you in your chair this morning you made a mess of everything by afternoon you drove a sports car you were driving at the speed of things you held my hand while i was crying you were allergic to bee stings i threw some earth onto your coffin and thought about the speed of things i kissed you by the clear cold river i felt like i was growing wings but i grew horns and found another oh a girl to share the speed of things oh a girl to share the speed of things ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jun 1996 12:00:58 -0700 (PDT) From: Marc Horton Subject: Re: live death Maybe I missed this, but what exactly is this _Live Death_ ? Speaking of nano-analyzing when we all have the CD, why don't we set up an IRC listening party? The realtime chat with Robyn was the first time I've ever used IRC, and I found it to be pretty enjoyable for the most part. I have never been able to get a list of all the channels on IRC, but I've tried #fegmaniax and #feg, and all I get is a small room with just me and some radishes in it. Oh well. Oh well. irc channels, unless they are registered, are created when someone /join's the channel. registering a channel permanently creates that channel. this has some advantages for retaining control of operator status and some other stuff. if anyone wants to register #fegmaniax, #feg, #glasshotel or whatever are more than welcome to! woj ------------------------------ From: bootleg@netvoyage.net Date: Wed, 26 Jun 1996 15:30:52 -0700 Subject: live death Don't bother calling Amoeba about Live Death.
