I found this more than slightly ironic, seeing that Robyn Hitchcock >is one of the most witty, intelligent songwriters today--and yet because >most folks just don't "get him" -- he winds up on the soundtrack for "dumb >and dumber" with a bunch of other gimmicky or quirky songs! I thought the same thing when I saw a cover of an XTC song on the soundtrack of the original movie (performed by Crash Test Dummies, who - though not in the same league - are no slouches either). Why no "Live-in years" on the compilation??? Title: "The man who invented himself". Or maybe: "Plangent Crustacea" (hey, it would sit nicely next to the Chills album "Submarine Bells"!) James (back from lots of exhausting fun in Christchurch). ------------------------------ From: Todd Gerard Subject: Real Time Audio Date: Mon, 10 Jun 1996 02:07:23 -0400 Is it just me or is the quality of ra just plain awful? No matter what preferences I set or modem speed I connect to I get horrible sounding garbled audio that is always buffered, i.e. there's a lightning bolt in the little rotating speaker icon and packets are lost. No matter what what program material is streaming it all sounds the same. My ISP is Netcom if that means anything. Please help, I am really bumming because the potential of ra is relly cool and I can't get it to sound right. Which Van Morrison record was "Linden Arden" from? What year? >3. Which Van Morrison record was "Fairplay" from? What year? Fairplay is track #1 and Linden Arden is track #2 from the Van Morrison record Veedon Fleece. It came out in 1974 and is quite good but I've heard conflicting accounts of whether it is out of print in the U.S. Anybody seen it for sale recently? To listen to ra 1 you need a 14.4 modem and at least a 486/50 computer. To listen to ra 2 you need a 28.8 modem and a pentium computer. If you have a 14.4 and try connecting to ra 2 then you'll get fuzz. ra 1 isn't that good but we're offering it so people without 28.8 modems or higher aren't alienated. Just got through reading the real time interview--thanks Rooneys. Other than the date August 23rd (and the math involved in figuring out the Mossy Liquor release date) I was most intrigued by the mention of Maisie's boyfriend as being a great guy. Can you imagine meeting your girlfiend's father and he's *Robyn Hitchcock*? What's more, he think's you're a great guy? And if you end up marrying her, the guy who gives away the bride at your wedding is *Robyn Hitchcock*! I'm trying to picture my own wedding with Robyn Hitchcock walking my wife down the isle. And then, at the birth of your first child, *Robyn Hitchcock* is in the delivery room slapping you on the back. And when the kid is, say, 5 years old and you take him to grandpa's house for the weekend, *Robyn Hitchcock* is watching your kid for the weekend! I don't think I could handle all that without weeping. Maybe French guys are better equipped to deal with such an influx of "cool" in their lives. -russ today's CD changer mix (summer's greatest hits): The Clash/Thc Clash on Broadway - trailer XTC/Drums & Wires Joe Jackson/Look Sharp Smashing Pumpkins/Melon Collie & the Infinite Sadness Frenchy's Girlfriend's Old Man/Underwater Moonlight ------------------------------ Date: 10 Jun 96 18:32:30 EDT From: Lord Aidan <101356.2516@CompuServe.COM> Subject: Dadadadadada/Only The Women Know Kimberley's new album (probably under the name of the Waves; Polydor might insist on restoring the 'Katrina and' to boost sales but they've so far resisted this) is out in August, provisionally titled _Dadadadadada_ or _Only The Women Know_, on Polydor.
