Just thought I'd throw that out to any Feg or Vanfan songwriters out there since I'm not personally working on any songs which match either description. Kinda reminiscent of the B.A.D. instrumental entitled "Mick's a Hippie Burning". Well...I been lurking on this list for the past couple of weeks, and digging the mail, by 'n' large. :::stands up, gets in front of the podium::: My name is Doc, and I like the music of Robyn Hitchock... (you're supposed to say "Hi, Doc!" at this point) ...as I say, I've been reading the mail, and it would seem I have arrived at a most propitious time: Robyn's got a label ('bout stinking time-- freaking bean counters at the rekkid companies), there's gonna be a greatest hits (seems to be a misnomer to me; I dunno if there have ever been any "hits with a bullet", per se, but who'm'I to quibble?), and there's gonna be a new album out! WHOOOPEEEEEE! (My friend Alice, keeper of the Blue Aeroplanes web pages and mailing list, has seen Robyn playing the new stuff with a band called Homer. It all sounded great, she said.) And...what's this? There are bootlegs of Robyn's stuff? Man! Wotta gas! I saw him with Morris and Andy at The Vic in Chicago on the "Respect" tour (the t-shirt still gets the funniest looks...or mebbe it's me, I dunno), and when they closed the show with "Kung Fu Fighting", I was rolling on the floor of the balcony, laughing. I dunno if that was the intended result, but the very thought of KFF being covered was enough to put me into a spastic universe of my very own. OK, I do have one question: with regard to this show that's coming up this saturday, and the IRC to follow (what _is_ an IRC anyway?), how does one "tune into" it, so to speak? I'm about three years behind the times with a 14.4 modem, so I rather suspect I'm in the hurt box already, but...I can't lose anything by asking. I've gone on much longer than I'd intended, so I'm going to get lost. Thanks, all...I'm going back to lurking. Look after yerselves... -Ed, Doc, ...wondering what he'll do when he meets Mrs. Wafflehead... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jun 1996 23:47:48 -0500 From: Grant & Lorrie Subject: Re: Hi kids...can we open our presents now? Strange thing, back in 86 I saw Game Theory and then Camper Van Beethoven a few months apart at the same venue in Corvallis Oregon, and they both opened with Kung Fu Fighting. I thought is had something to do with Odd Fellows Hall in Corvallis :) I saw RH&E do their cover during this same tour, only they did it during the interlude in the middle of the show (I was actually hoping for Uncorrected Personality Traits). > > OK, I do have one question: with regard to this show that's coming up this > saturday, and the IRC to follow (what _is_ an IRC anyway?), how does one "tune > into" it, so to speak? You're right, even with a 28.8 modem, it's about like AM radio. Not only that, but if the server is slow or too busy, it's like hearing AM radio at 2:00 AM from Japan where the feed comes in and out. I hope it comes through good, but I've heard Real Audio at 14.4, and I would recommend getting a tape from someone who can get the show on actual radio (by all means, give it a try though, it should still be great fun). By the way, welcome aboard! I'll be online as Leppo (yes, it's my usual Chat nickname), but I may just lurk, depending on how badly Robyn get bombarded. The problem with IRC is that a bunch of threads directed at a single person could get overwhelming or just downright annoying. Doesn't Robyn have a documented disdain, dislike, or dis-something regarding computers? If so, this could be a rare moment indeed, especially after he sees the under-impressive world of IRC chat. Hopefully some kid seeking cyber-smut won't inadvertently stumble into the channel and ask Robyn if he wants to trade Pics. Although, you never know about these things... :) Grant -- This message from Grant and/or Lorrie in beautiful downtown Corvallis, Oregon See our ever-changing home pages at http://www.proaxis.com/~gburnell/ ------------------------------ From: LORDK@library.phila.gov Date: Fri, 7 Jun 1996 9:31:17 -0400 (EDT) CC: LORDK@library.phila.gov Subject: Sat night this may seem like heresy, but for those of us who dont have access to "chat" stuff--is there anyway this sort of thing can be transcribed after the fact so the rest of us can taste the honey which will drip from the mouth of the master(sorry, Im reading Auden again, as in " Poetry makes nothing happen, is a way of being, a mouth"(not exact, but its interesting how female he makes it)).Having never experienced this sort of get-to-gether--is it multi-level, intertwining, or more like a straight interview? I don't know whether or not I can do this chat. Could someone post directions on how to listen to this show through the web and how to do this chat.
