Feh! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 1996 00:25:24 -0400 (EDT) From: Eric R Neffke Subject: related a&m query Hi all! This may be a silly question, but, since I don't keep up with the maneuverings of record company weasels like I should, I need to ask. What are the status of Robyn's A&M albums? Which are out of print? And is there a distinct possibility that they may be reissued along the lines of the Rhino reissues? Anyway... I'd appreciate any info. Thanks. Eric p.s. I remember someone asking if they were the youngest person on this list. Well, I'm 20... so I wonder the same thing. :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 May 1996 21:51:05 -0700 From: afink@ix.netcom.com (Aaron Finkelstein) Subject: Young Ones Conspiracy Theory >Date: Tue, 21 May 1996 16:04:15 -0700 (PDT) >From: Marc Horton >Subject: Great Big Hello > >Greetings all-- > >I've been on the list for a while but this is actually my first post. >First of all, does anyone know if Robyn ever had anything to do with "the >Young Ones?"(the early-80's British TV show, that is.) The accent RH >affects on "Mellow Together," from IODOT, seems a direct tribute (or >spoof, I haven't yet decided) to the character of Neil, played by Nigel >Planer. The only possible connection I can think of is as follows: -Robbie Coltrane was one of myriad of extremely talented individuals to cameo on The Young Ones. He played the bouncer in the episode where Rik Mayall's room is transformed into a roller disco. -Since the demise of The Young Ones, he has also appeared in numerous projects with Mayall, Planer, and/or Adrian Edmonson: Black Adder, Supergrass, The Pope Must Die, Eat the Rich, etc. -Mr. Coltrane's latest work is on a phenomenal mystery series called "Cracker," which chronicles the investigative adventures of an alcoholic police psychiatrist... -...for which Roger Jackson supplied the music. Yes, *that* Roger Jackson. Or am I stretching a little? I think this goes far to explain why Robyn and Richard Milhous Nixon are never seen in the same room together. Know most of them, but can't quite figure them all out. I could, of course, but I'm sort of lazy. Cheers! Let's not forget the rampant commercial possibilities of a duets album. I'm seeing Robyn cutting a rockin' disc of his own tunes sung in duets with other performers and if the other artist is dead, so much the better... How about Robyn & Alan Hale, Jr. singing "Airscape"? Robyn & Brian Jones singing "Listening To The Higsons"? Robyn & Bleeding Gums Murphy performing "The Pit Of Souls"? In the living catagory, perhaps Robyn & Noel Gallagher could perform "Trash"? (President Bill could be part of the back-up band, as well. That way, we'd get a really drippy sax sound on "Midnight Fish" sung with Peter Garrett.) Wait 'til you see the Robyn Hitchcock Pop-Up Book! It'll put Balloon Man in an entirely different light. More posthumous duets: Robyn Hitchcock and Alfred Hitchcock on "I often dream of trains"? Noel Coward and Robyn Hitchcock on "My wife and my dead wife"? Robyn Hitchcock and Timothy Leary on "When you gonna change your strawberry mind"? Robyn Hitchcock and Glenn Tillbrook on "Flesh No. 1" (no, there's no commercial potential in that one).) What evidence is there for making the second assertion? It is reasonable speculation, but as far as I know, it is just speculation. If anyone has real data, such as interviews and quotes from robyn or other folks in a position to know, please post. It's really wierd ! Strange things keep happening. Like plates are disappearing and the tables keep, well, shrinking. Looks like there's a poltergoost in the house...." The song is Subterranean Homesick Blues performed by (amongst others) Jools Holland, Glen Tilbrook, and Stewart Copeland (of The Police). Comment: That 'Among others' could be significant, n'est-ce pas? Tilbrook is a known collaborator, and it's a Dylan song... Nasty "Ashes to ashes, funk to funky, Vyv is now a video head and Neil's wearing a dress because some really selfish negative vibe merchant boarded up his bedroom. Only pop music can save them now." The band playing in the living room are The Damned with Video Nasty. This episode has a different beginning sequence, presenting the episode as if it were a horror film. music by The Damned Comment: There is a well-known Captain Sensible-RH connection. A lot of us already have the b sides on different cd's though. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't worry! The track listing is as follows: Balloon Man, Vibrating, Flesh #1, A Globe of Frogs (electric)*, Legalized Murder*, Spoken intro to "Eyes"*, One Long Pair of Eyes, Madonna of the Wasps, Wax Doll, More Than This*, Ruling Class*, So You Think You're In Love, Oceanside, Ride, She Doesn't Exist, Dark Green Energy*, 8 Miles High*, Driving Aloud, The Yip Song, Alright Yeah*, and Bright Fresh Flower*. All "*" are non-LP tracks -- as you can see, a pretty good mix of album tracks and rarities. The album, entitled "Greatest Hits," is part of our new "Backlot Series" of remastered "best-of's," and Robyn's is due out August 13. Hope you like it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 1996 13:59:22 -0400 From: gene@cadmus.com (Gene Hopstetter, Jr.) Subject: re: The Young Ones >The band playing in the living room are The Damned with Video >Nasty. Unless I'm overlooking something, it looks like the only rare tracks they left off were "Watch Your Intelligence" and "Linda Arden..." I've never heard Linda Arden, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather hear WYI on there than "Legalized Murder". -russ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 1996 16:30:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Aaron Mandel Subject: Re: tracklist of the new a&m cd > Don't worry! At any rate, we can't criticize them for overlapping significantly with a bootleg, which is how I have most of the rarities above. Such is life.
