Isn't it a British only thing?? The K-records single doesn't do me much good, seeing as I don't have a record player. Also, on the "Vegetarian Cat" thread, I'd like to at least mention "Chinese Bones." C'mon: "the line between us is so thin, I might as well be you..." But how can you fight "Beautiful Girl!" Hey, Jay and Sarah and all other "love-crazy" fegs: I was sort of shocked and pleased at the same time that no one mentioned what I think to be an obvious "our song." When I proposed to my beloved, I grabbed my guitar and ran through a very weak rendition of... "I've Got A Message For You" She laughed, then cried, and then said "Yes." Now, maybe it wouldn't have been her first choice as "our song," but it certainly gets a big grin and a hug out of her when she hears it now! Anyway, best of luck you two. I think I speak for a lot of us fegs when I say that this is the kind of thread I welcome any time. Gosh, you both made my crusty heart a little mushy! Cheers. Sincerely Jay Hedblade Hedblade@aol.com ------------------------------ From: RxBroome@aol.com Date: Sat, 20 Apr 1996 23:49:10 -0400 Subject: Anglophilia, Welshophilia, etc... Glad someone got back to the Welsh via "The Prisoner" (which, as I've mentioned, is a fave) since it gives me a good segue into another virtually unrelated topic... My dearest fiancee Megan, who is, as I've also mentioned, not a Feg (thank God, as it saves me the trouble of finding "Our RH Song", which is the most hideous of all concepts) is functioning as my chauffeur in this, the Time of My Carlessness. In addition to her myriad other talents, she does slave labo(u)r at the LA County Museum of Art, and thus I found myself stranded there for several hours Friday night before coming home. LACMA is doing a retrospective of CinemaScope extravaganzas, so I find myself killing two hours watching a dubious excercise in cinematic largeness called "Zulu", which in addition to being archly politically incorrect and Michael Caine's first screen role, had as one of its central jokes a pair of clueless enlisted men in Africa circa 1879 who were more concerned with preserving their choral group than the treat of the infinitely superior military forces of the Zulus. They were, of course, Welsh-- an irony which would've been lost on me if not for a post a month or so ago explaining the line in "Do Policemen Sing?" about how the Welsh "really do excel". Thanks for salvaging my Friday night, whoever you were... I actually laughed out loud. As to UK questions as to US Anglophilia: I am very, very guilty. From ages 12 - 15, I was, perhaps unhealthily, a Doctor Who devotee and even (please don't disown me!) went to a Doctor Who convention in Ohio. (UK Fegs please understand that Doctor Who is a VERY obscure phenomenon in the US, and could at the time only be seen on PBS - local unwatched non-commercial TV, that is-- and at 1AM Sunday nights, at that). I also grew up reading Paddington, the Wind in the Willows, and suchlike, later graduating to Monty Python, the Hitchhiker's Guide, the Prisoner, etc... none of which any of my friends in West Virginia had ever heard of... all of which tapered off around age 18 when I discovered music as a way to construct one's identity, and GUESS what kind of musicians I glommed onto! Yup, obscure British ones. Go figure. As to who's the punkest... well, I myself am of course the most punkest ever. Although I must admit that my buddy Dave the Republican has spent way more time hanging out with Johnny Rotten at parties than I have. Hmm... maybe I'm actually the least punkest ever. About which I can't possibly be bothered to give a damn, which is awfully punk of me, thank you very much. Rex PS to Dave-- ever asked Mr. Rotten what he thinks of Robyn? I imagine he would feel more or less just how he felt about Julian Cope, but one never knows. ------------------------------ Date: 21 Apr 96 01:42:26 EDT From: Sillyme <102465.41@CompuServe.COM> Subject: Deadness Hi! new here.
