I mean..the lyrics don't seem like his usual, and there's no reason why he wouldn't release it if it were his own... Any ideas? Is Kimberly's >name just weird, or is this a common thing? Kim is often short for Kimberley, both for men and women, not that it's that common a name. Australia had a famous (male) cricket player a few years back called Kim Hughes, who was a Kimberley. But I'd guesstimate that 3/4 of all Kims would be female. And the same is probably true of Robyns spelt with a "y". As for Morris, 3/4 of all people called Morris are actually cars. (or am I confusing Morris Windsor with Morris Oxford?) --- as to mention of Robyn, The Beatles and Green Day, some people I know thought I was weird when I said that Porno for Pyros were ripping off Gerry and the Pacemakers... (listen to the intros from "Orgasm" and "Ferry Cross the Mersey". No, I can't remember which is by which band...) --- While listening to the demo version of that delightfully kinky little number "The Bones in the Ground" (last track on the IODOT reissue), I suddenly became aware that the reason it fades out so quickly at the end is that Robyn is re-using a tape that he'd already used for another song and not wiped completely. Listen to the fadeout in one channel, and you can hear the start of another song (lyrics sound something like "Under it, over...") the question is - what other song is it??? --- Many thanks Mark - that cheered up my day no end. PS - if those 19 year olds do appear, and you've got some spare... James Highlanders news (well, it makes a change): Henderson, Vaega and Culhane are out of Tuesday's clash with the Warriors. Paul Henderson's knee injury may also prevent him from playing the Waratahs next Sunday. Vanisi comes into the team along with Timmins and Mika for the clash. Lee Lidgard has been temporarily drafted into the team reserves as cover for the still injured Rob Lawton. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 1996 16:00:15 +0100 (BST) From: M R Godwin Subject: Literature references OK, so I was laid up in bed with vertigo at the time and the room was spinning round and round, but I definitely saw an old forties movie the other day of a Noel Coward play called Blithe Spirit, in which the hero (played by a young Rex Harrison) has trouble choosing between his Wife and His Dead Wife. A strong influence there, I would have thought. Nobody wore any flares, though. 'Clear Spot' is a track on the great, fabulous, eponymous Captain Beefheart LP - it's the one which starts 'I have to run so far to find a clear spot'. However, a song which the Soft Boys seem to like even more is 'The Spotlight Kid' off another LP called 'The Spotlight Kid'. I have always thought that the 'It's just a 109 zone" riffs are closely based on this track. ('Zone' is just a guess, but 109 is definitely Messerschmidt accurate). - Mike Godwin PS Toto? I thought their drummer died in a bizarre gardening accident... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 1996 15:14:57 -0600 From: mbrage@surgery.bsd.uchicago.edu (Michael Brage) Subject: Robyn as Who? Well, I finally found out who Fox and the BBC announced would be the new Dr. Who and it's not Robyn. I think Robyn would be a fine regeneration of the Doctor. Certainly better than Colin Baker ever was. Anyway, who is Paul McGann? (spelling?) Time is rather like a banana, there's a layer outside and an inside bit. Crabs are like that also. I've got an uncle who's a crab, and back when he was born...he's a Gemini, I think..no a Capricorn. Anyways, back when he was born..... [enter Daleks] Terru ------------------------------ Date: 15 Apr 1996 16:14:31 -0800 From: "Mark Gloster" Subject: Re: Robyn as Who? Colin Baker would've been okay, but he had Perry as an assistant which certainly watered down his dominion. John Pertwee and Tom Baker- those were the heydays. I thought that Bayard Catron has the perfect name for the series. He could take charge of Unit. Teach them to shoot straight. Terry Marks could be another stranded-timelord-without-a-tardis stuck in Florida. Susan could say "have a green day" and accidentally start a war with the Daleks. I think we need to get Woj in here somewhere too. Michael could be the video guy. I should think that I'd make a pretty good jester somewhere "Hey, pay attention to me! Laugh!" Kimberly Rew could be a cyberman. Any other cast ideas? -Mark Gloster ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The End of this Fegmaniax Digest.
