And while were on the subject, I'd like to know how many of us have actually heard "The Ruling Class" and whether or not you think it's as great a song as I do. Please let me know, either via private e-mail or heated list discussion, your thoughts about this song if you have heard it. I'd ESPECIALLY like to know if you've ever heard it performed live. -Russ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 96 09:12:00 -0800 From: Russ Reynolds Subject: German Underwater Moonlight The original album version of "Old Pervert" is apparently now a rarity, as it's been replaced by the "Disco version" on the Glass Fish CD reissue. My question is, which version appears on the original German version of UM? (ROOF 133 026). Anyone know? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 96 09:12:00 -0800 From: Russ Reynolds Subject: NO QUARTER I'm in the process of updating a discography I began in the 80's, and I'm missing quite a lot of information. I have a listing for a various artists album called "No Quarter - Music For W.W.III" which contains a Soft Boys track. I need to know: 1. The Year it was released 2. The label and catalog number 3. Which Soft Boys song is on this album 4. Which cut on which album side this appears. Any help would be appreciated. -russ. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 96 09:12:00 -0800 From: Russ Reynolds Subject: Popticians 7" Can anyone supply me with the song lengths for "I saw my dinner on TV", "Grandad's Glasses" and "Amoeba" from the I SAW MY DINNER ON TV 7-inch by John Hegley & The Popticians? I've no clue who Paul Roland is. I saw him open for RH in a small club in Bristol in 1987, where he talked a lot about dogs. He is obviously an RH favourite as he seems to get frequent mentions in RH interviews and chat. - MG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 17:16:28 -0500 (EST) From: Terry Marks Subject: Re: The Ruling Class > And while were on the subject, I'd like to know how many of us have actually > heard "The Ruling Class" and whether or not you think it's as great a song > as I do. To expand the question a bit.. I say that they should have released: Look Into Your Mirror Alien Smoothie Lonesome Death of Ian Penman Ruling Class Mr. Rock'N'Roll Evil Guy Allright Yeah Bright Fresh Flower Lobsterman When I Was Dead (Andy's edit) The Yodelling Hoover, Hear My Brane Face of Death Innocent Boy Yes I Do More Chinese Boys Garden of Light And that the missing second album sessions would still make a good CD in its own right. What a great rocker. Maybe Mr. Hitchcock forgot about it. It's worth a revival. Michael ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 17:44:33 -0800 (PST) From: Brooks Martin Subject: Who is Paul Roland? Well, I'm not sure who he is other than that he is a British musician who has at least five albums to his credit, possibly more. He covered "Mathilda Mother" on one of his albums. I can't remember the title of the record. I have it at home, though I rarely listen to it. He's kind of got a voice thats a cross between Robyn's and Edward Qua'Spell's. However, his music isn't nearly as good as either of them. The Syd track was included on the "Beyond the Wildwood" Tribute album that came out in '89 on Communion Records. The version of that song on the album is far superior, though they're the same recording. Confusing? What I mean is that the source tape that they used for the wildwood CD was horrible -- It sounds like taking cotton out of your ears when you listen to the album. I wish I could remember the name of the album! Hope this helps, Brooks Martin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 21:23:52 -0400 (EDT) From: daramsey@vassar.edu (david's ramsey) Subject: Edward Ka-Spell Hey, Brooks Martin mentioned Edward Ka-Spell and I just wanted to chime in and say that he is definitely a musician worth investigating. He's put out many many albums with the band Legendary Pink Dots, who at one point were denied visas to perform in the US because they were deemed to have no artistic merit (whether or not this is true I'm not sure- I heard a DJ on the radio say it a few years ago), and he's done some GREAT stuff with an outfit called The Tear Garden, which also features some members of Skinny Puppy...for fans of Robyn and Syd I would quite definitely recommend the Tear Garden album called "The Last Man to Fly". It's sort of a combination of Robyn, Syd, New Order, Ministry, and some indefinable beautiful yet frightening something. Definitely worth looking into. Anyways, enough already.
