I vote "no!" ...on the other hand, if the list talks of nothing else for weeks on end, i reckon it could get a mite dull.... doug p.s. can anyone tell me when this radio session was recorded? robyn hitchcock plays 3 or 4 songs, including "meat" and "grooving on an inner plane," then eddie van halen drops by the studio and they jam on some tv theme songs...they hardly play any of them all the way through, but "eight is enough" and "gilligan's island" are more-or-less played intact... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Feb 1996 10:18:18 -0800 From: kawhite@pacifier.com (Kristine White) Subject: Robyn, Bill and Alice >I don't know, being a guy, I still can't even think of Robyn being that >great-looking of a guy. I would LOVE to have an hour full of Robyn raving in his esablished presong (prefacing) introductions. One will flow into another- into another - another. And to keep this recording songless. The rarity I can offer is from an interview post Perspex on WFNX (Boston.) In this, he coins the cocept of a "pastry-clock." Any supporters? Untill quite recently (last year when I got EOL) I did not know what he looked like myself. The only photo that I had ever seen was the Queen Elvis and Perspex Island covers, not much to go by there. Although, what I like about Robyn I thought most other people share. Ya, I like his voice, his songs the stories that he writes on the inside of the album covers. I have never seen him live, much to my regret. In fact I do not know if I would like him as a person, but I would invite him to dinner. Also, liking Robyn enough to buy all his albums, subscribe to this list and listen to "A Can of Bees" in a complete sitting is more much more serious than most people get with a 'crush'. In a couple years Brad Pit will not be quite the Hunk that people think of him now. So, you wanna see a picture of a geeky looking Robyn? Check out the inside cover of jewel case "the soft boys 1976-81". -James Is Frank Black attractive? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Feb 1996 21:56:06 +0000 From: Jim Bower Subject: Robyn the what? I think the person who made the Alan Rickman comparison is dead on, only I think that's what our boy will look like in a few years. Then again, I haven't seen him recently. He has no doubt aged a bit from the picture on my wall that I drool over every time I see it (the infamous "God Walks Among Us" picture). If this tape of short stories/between song babblings ever gets put together, count me in for a copy. Unfortunately I don't collect rarities so I can't contribute anything to it :(. But I would be very delighted to have it, and if some interviews ended up on it too, that wouldn't be so awful either. No one's suggested taking her for a lifetime on the French Riviera. > Is Frank Black attractive? Well, from what I've seen, if I was female, I wouldn't find him particularly so. He looks kind of overweight, he can't decide on what his name is (his real name is, I think, Carl Thompson), and that bald haircut thing looks really freaky. Morris looked kind of bored with his tamborine. The audience was pretty receptive both times. Well, as a het female who is extremely obsessed with Robyn Hitchcock, I have to say that my strong feelings towards him are closer to David's than to some sort of sexual/crush thing. I am entranced by Robyn as a songwriter/musician/performer/storyteller and intellect. I would love to have him over for dinner, but I don't think that I want to have some sort of affair with him. Abstract Plain, Calistan, and a whole bunch of other songs were good on that album...problem is, he seems to write four songs and mesh them all together, occasionally with bad results, like Big Red..
