Re: going without Re: going without Re: Uncorrected Re: going without Morris.com? a new robyn cd Re: Morris.com? ------------------------------ From: ZeroSummer@aol.com Date: Mon, 15 Jan 1996 02:04:14 -0500 Subject: All about fans I just want to say something nice about this list. I was just reading through some of the new comments about Tori Amos in the Tori folder on AOL, basically wondering when the new album is coming out so I know how much earlier I can pick it up at my local store. And every comment is basically, "I love the new single!" "It's so her, yet it's not! I love it!" "I think this is the best our girl's ever done!" Etc, etc. Now . . . I happen to think Tori's new single, well, kind of sucks. I also hope to God the rest of the album is better. And having a bit of respect for the past, I'll hold my comments on her equaling her "best" work until she equals "Little Earthquakes," which I don't expect she ever will. It's that great. So . . . All that to say, if Robyn ever releases anything that one of us feels, well, sucks, we'll say so. And everyone who disagrees, I expect, will do it peacefully, and we will all be happy and free. But free means being free to criticize, too. We all love Robyn, and that's why we're here. It's just great that we don't have to fawn so much. A trip to Toriville has reminded me of that. And I just wanted to say I appreciate it. I'm thinking of > the time proceeding Invisible Hitchcock - was that longer? He's barely skipped one year since he started, let alone three! i think he released invisible hitch and EoL concurrently in 1986 (it was a very good year) and feg! and the live album the year before... he did take a couple of years off between _decay_ and _trains_, but this is definitely the longest robyn record drought in history. But he's still prolific, and not a stationary dude. ------------------------------ From: LJ Subject: Robyn's Shirts Date: Mon, 15 Jan 1996 10:52:45 -0500 (EST) Well, I don't know about those recent lizard shirts, but I do know that Robyn used to get all of his cool shirts from Paul Smith, who is a kind-of-famous designer. I know he has a shop on 5th Avenue here in NYC, and I'm pretty sure there's a Paul Smith shop in London. From what I understand, his stuff is fairly expensive. Well, well, well.......glad to see that people are actually posting again. I was starting to wonder if I had somehow gotten bounced from the list :). As to the Tori Amos question.....I myself have always thought that if you were a true fan, you'd speak up when something didn't measure up to your expectations. It's kinda like the way that a true friend will tell you if your fly is open. I love Mr. Deadly as much as the next geezer (probably a good deal more) but that doesn't mean I have to like "Perspex Island" or even defend it. Of course, if you're so blind that you can't even admit the POSSIBILITY of the monarch's lack of dress, the problem goes much deeper than whether or not you're willing to give a negative opinion. I don't think we have that problem on this list at all :), and I think it's more unusual than not. If you think the Tori Amos fans are bad try subscribing to the Jonathan Richman mailing list for awhile. Or just go and post something unflattering about Trent Reznor in a group where the 16 and unders hang out- I was once flooded with obscene, sub-literate hate mail for two solid weeks when I was foolhardy enough to do that :). Fan does stem from "fanatic", doesn't it? Susan P.S. Decided to go with "se tapir".......Now you can all sleep at night :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jan 1996 12:45:47 -0500 (EST) From: Eugene B Mirman Subject: Re: going without On Mon, 15 Jan 1996, Bayard wrote: > > Grant wonders: > > > QUESTION: Has Robyn ever gone this long without a new LP. I don't believe it was three years between Respect and You and Oblivion, was it? Plus there was the K single, Invisible Hitory, Stand Back Dennis, Route of the Clones, and the reissues, and tour. (Plus Netsurfer Ghost for some...) Though most of these are bootlegs or something like that (I often see Route of the Clones at Newbury comics in Harvard Square, which doesn't sell bootlegs, so I'm slightly confused...) Either way, though he hasn't released an album of new material, the last few years have contained a number fun recordings for many of us. It's almost been a somewhat prolific time...It could have been much worse... -Eugene ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jan 1996 13:29:35 -0500 (EST) From: Terry Marks Subject: Re: going without On Mon, 15 Jan 1996, Bayard wrote: > > Grant wonders: > > > QUESTION: Has Robyn ever gone this long without a new LP. Thought I'd post because I've seen a few titles flying around that I'm not familiar with. Can you all help me learn about/obtain them? Seen a friends copy of "Invisible History" but can't track it down. Saw "Stand Back Dennis" in Goldmine, but no explaination as to what it was. Haven't a clue about "Route Of Clones" or "Netsurfer Ghost." Thanks for your help, and watch this space (i.e. my postings) for EXCITING Robyn info in the near future... "Statue" sounds pretty good with some production, but it doesn't say who produced it..... it says Track 10 courtesy Robyn/Sincere Management. i don't know if this has been mentioned, i do ignore incoming mail from some people, no matter what the topic, so if this has been mentioned, fuck me with a rusty chainsaw. love, josh ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jan 1996 20:34:59 -0500 From: jojones@mailbox.syr.edu (John B.
