Hi all, I have returned! Got a few questions engendered by my back mail. Uno: Was that Lou Reed's "Satellite of Love" at the 12 bar club show, or Robyn's own "Satellite"? Just wanted to get this 100 percent clear. Dos: What is the date on this Warner Bros. release? Does Rhino still have rights to the back catalog? Tres (the last one, for now): Is this album going to be primarily acoustic (please, please, pretty please)? I think the WB contract is good news. Now he'll be labelmates with Elvis Costello and I can see them when they tour together :) which I'm sure is in the works (in my fantasies, anyway). Susan P.S. The Frnech translation of "Un Soir Raymond Chandler" is on its way to you soon, Terry, if you still need it. What I'm lacking is a way to translate "lurking" into French. Anyone know? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jan 1996 17:17:29 -0800 (PST) From: Glen Uber Subject: Re: Truth is stranger than fiction On 9 Jan 1996, New Puritan wrote: > > I'm laying early odds on "Devil's Radio"), a tour with a name > > artist [Van Halen perhaps? ;) > > Hitchcock and Seligman have both recorded with Eddie van Halen, and Kimberley > Rew supported Van Halen (the band) for six dates. I suspect it will be mostly Robyn on acoustic. that seems to be what he's interested in right now. also featuring deni on violin, some saxophone (i thought he hated saxophone?) and drums on a couple of songs, just so they can get played on the radio. heck, Aidan's heard it, let's ask him! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jan 1996 22:21:59 -0500 (EST) From: ! There's a thought -- could Peter or one of the other REMfolk have exerted some "pull" to get WB to give Robyn a go? (This must be how groundless rumours get started, but I find it a rather enchanting notion). ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Jan 96 10:38:00 -0800 From: Russ Reynolds Subject: RH & VH? > Hitchcock and Seligman have both recorded with Eddie van Halen, and > Kimberley > Rew supported Van Halen (the band) for six dates. Aidan-- Seligman and Kimberley I have no trouble believing, but when did Robyn work with Eddie Van Halen? How did this come about? Was something released? Did Robyn get to meet Valerie? I need details! -Russ. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Jan 1996 13:41:50 -0800 From: cagedrat@ix.netcom.com (Smegmaniax ) Subject: RE:RH and VH? >but when did Robyn work >with Eddie Van Halen? How did this come about? Was something released? Did >Robyn get to meet Valerie? I need details! > -Russ. > I think Robyn first met Valerie through his obsession of collecting "One Day at a Time" video dubs of the American TV show. His passion for collecting all episodes was noted in the 1978 Soft Boys "Wade Across America" tourbook and video. This obsession led to a chance meeting with Valerie backstage at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ, who brought along the "lost pilot episode" in exchange for the Soft Boys "missing second album masters." Valerie introduced Eddie (who she had not yet met, let alone marry, to Robyn, who wiped the original guitar trax off of the original masters of Vryna Knowl and Wading thru a Ventilator and had Eddie re-record them. That's why the single versions are different than subsequent releases. Also, I hear Andy Metcalf plays clarinet on Van Halen's Diver Down's "Big Bad Bill" as well. Isn't this all in the FAQ? roberto -- PSA (BAD DAY) R.E.M.
