I went to the monthly record convention here over the weekend. Usually, there's nothing ever new regarding Robyn and colleagues. However, by chance, I start thumbing through this vendor's crate of records and find a near mint copy of Kimberly Rew's "Bible of Pop" for just $10.00! I guess that's why I go to those things in the first place. Its nice to know that there are still times when you can find something. Just wondering why the list has seemed so inactive of late. Is everyone afflicted with seasonal depression? I miss getting my usual dose of fegmail :). News some of us can use: I spotted a new copy of "Rout of the Clones" at "The Quaker Goes Deaf" in Chicago (yes, Virginia, that IS the store name) so I assume you can order one from them if you don't already have it. Fegquestion (for those who are blessed/cursed with romantic partners): Is your partner also a feg? Merely tolerant? Outright annoyed? I'm curious about this. And another fegquestion (for anyone): I was also wondering how many people on the list are astrology believers (or users) and how many are skeptic? And finally: How about a favorite writers poll? After a certain age being a six- legged creature loses it's appeal. We are all still in touch and may well work together in the future, but not on a career basis. Both Morris and Andy may feature on the next record that I relea@se it should be out in May 1996 - but it will not be an Egyptians project. Andy is currently involved in production and TV music with Roger Jackson (former Egyptians keyboard player). Morris is running a business in Gloucester, and exploring the possibilities of computers. I have recorded a number of new songsfor the next album, some with Deni Bonet on violin, and some with Moris Tepper on guitar. 7he working title is 'Shadowcat'. " There is another new T-shirt available this month. "Man With A Woman's Shadow" is an original drawing by Robyn with purple, green and black print on a white shirt, in Large & XL. The quotes ranged from as little as $15.00 US dollars to the amazing of $150.00 (shocker!!). Of course, perhaps quality tells the tale. The $15.00 quote came from a small store in the Indian neighborhood on Devon street here in Chicago. Having been there a number of times for Indian food, I can say that every other store on that street has a sign on the window which reads, "We convert NTSAL to PAL at the lowest prices" Perhaps competition keeps the prices low. The $150.00 quote came from a company which operates right downtown in the loop. I almost laughed when I heard the price. Oh well.... I also can mail the tape to this guy that I have purchased videos (of this nature) from. His price is $20.00. However, if I went this route, I suspect that he would procure a copy for himself and sell it for profit. This idea to me is less optimal although convenient. Merely tolerant? Outright annoyed? I'm curious about this. My husband is a rather odd sort (I'd bet he'd love me saying that about him to so many people!), and does in fact exhibit some Robyn Hitchcock-type qualities (tracy? What do you think?). I got him into Robyn Hitchcock (or perhaps he got into him due to the fact that my Robyn Hitchcock CDs were glued into my CD player at one point) a couple years ago; he'd never heard of him before this. He found he quite liked him...perhaps he found an affinity with Robyn. He especially loves the Soft Boys stuff though, with the harmonica. He snuck backstage for me before a concert and got his autograph, and had a nice, short little chat with him as well, about love, marriage, life and the album _Eye_. Don't know if I could have done the same thing face to face with Robyn. > And another fegquestion (for anyone): I was also wondering how many people on > the list are astrology believers (or users) and how many are skeptic? Not a skeptic, not a user. I think a person can not be generalized by an astrological sign, and what that sign is supposed to "tell" about that person. Very neutral; I can take it or leave it, but put little or no dependence on such things. > And finally: How about a favorite writers poll? Its your typical Sensitive Woman versus Macho Man kinda thing. He often explains our polar opposite tastes by saying that he likes to go see Silvester Stallone play in a movie, while I have to watch Meryl Streep perform in a film. ; ) So obviously, my hubby most definitely falls under the "outright annoyed" category. He's a Top-40 kinda guy himself, while my musical tastes live in much more obscure zones. He can tolerate SOME of my music, and will often suffer through concerts so that I don't have to go unescorted, but he absolutely HATES Robyn. Whenever I feel the need to irritate the poor old guy, all I need to do is slap Invisible Hitchcock or something into the CD player. I didn't want to organize te thing myself :), though actually I would if I weren't going to be ot of town for three weeks starting next Monday. I really did want to find out though, which writers people admire in general rather than which books they admired, although both would be interesting. Speaking of that, other fegs who have not checked out the writings of P.G. Wodehouse would be strongly advised to do so :). As for the astrology question, I was interested in knowing how people felt about it, given R.H.'s own interest in it (by the way- there are hundreds of factors that go into a chart, the sun sign is only the first and simplest one :)). Again, mainly I was hoping to generate conversation. Myself, I have a mate who tolerates but doesn't really share my R.H. enthusiasm. The ironic thing is that he is actually the person who introduced me to the Soft Boys. He pretty much abandoned listening to them after a momentary burst of enthusiasm, at the same time I was slowly becoming a fanatic. He himself is obsessed with XTC, which is why I think he indulges me a little, as I have spent many hours listening to them when I would much rather have been doing something else (say, washing my hair :)). At least we understand each others' general sensibility, and manage to get along fairly well- my roommates now know that the person who calls and says "Hullo, this is Syd, is there a Dolly Rocker on the premises?" is looking for me :). He's done some wild things with his voice before (can opener, statue w/ a walkman)-- wouldn't surprise me. "Shadowcat", eh? I can't think of any good "net" tie ins like "netsurfer ghost".
