This one comes up every twenty digests or so, but... Alan Thorne would be a perfect producer for Robyn. Alan is an Australian, but I won't hold it against him. If you want to know what his production sounds like, have a listen to Paul Kelly's album "Gossip". (Paul Kelly sounds, vocally and melody-wise at least, a bit like an antipodean Robyn Hitchcock - but with less fish). Daniel Lanois is a good call though. Um... David Tickle? Adrian Belew?? Rupert Hine??? Neil Finn???? I must say it would have been interesting to see what Brian Eno would have done with RH at his most sparse and acoustic, e.g. Eye. Some of the domed one's work has been effective hilst also being very, very subtle, which may have done interesting things to that album... As to collaborations - I'd love to hear an acoustic album with Robyn on guitar and vocals and Danny Thompson on double bass... James James Dignan, Department of Psychology, University of Otago. At one of the Wash DC acoustic shows (might have been _eye_, although i think it was earlier...wasn't _invisible hitchcock_, though) he alternated between guitar and piano for about the first 3/4 of the set, then broke a string on the guitar and had to finish the set on the piano! He said it was a low-budget tour and they'd exceeded their string allowance or words to that effect. So we got to hear a number of Hitchcock songs not intended to be piano songs...interesting but a little disappointing. We'd heard "flavour of night" and some others early in the evening, which was keen, but the stuff he finished with i think he did not have piano arrangements for, so he played a lot of block chords, much less interesting imho than his guitar playing, and we couldn't see his facial expressions as well, as the piano was pushed against the left hand side of the stage, facing the wall. If I remember aright, he did dig up another guitar for the encore... anyone remember?
