What's happened in the past (i've sent woj a press sutting of a case, should anyone not believe it) is that the BPI hires a US security firm to raid you. "What she call herself Robin for? Boy's name, innit?" "It can be a girl's. They spell it with a 'y'." i had always assumed that the y-spelling was just a neutral variant, like bryan. but this opens up some interesting questions. did his parents have a strange sense of humor? did he change it himself as a deliberate play with sexual ambiguity? (this would seem quite plausible in light of some of the comments during the infamous queen elvis discussion a few months ago) on the other hand, if robin/robyn really is something on the order of francis/frances, i'm surprised i've never seen it mentioned before maybe the uk fegs could shed some light on this ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Nov 1995 13:55:32 -0800 (PST) From: Glen Uber To: Satellites and Stags Subject: Influences and set lists hello fegs... Does anyone know if Robyn has ever mentioned any country-western singers as influences. He has done a few songs which I would consider "country-tinged", ("Ye Sleeping Knights of Jesus", "Take Your Knife Out of My Back" and the acoustic "Arms of Love", specifically). I think I read somewhere that the first song he performed in public was "Dang Me". That is definitely possible, since Robyn has the same skewed view of the world as Roger Miller did. I have heard him perform Elvis Presley songs in concert, but I don't consider Elvis a strictly a country singer. Has he ever mentioned Hank Williams, Roger Miller, Johnny Cash, et al or any of the country rockers such as Gram Parsons as influences? Just curious... Also, would anyone happen to have set lists from Robyn's February 1991 show at Slim's in San Francisco and his July 1991 shows at the Edge in Palo Alto and the Great American Music Hall in SF? These were the first three shows I saw and I would like to have the set lists for sentimental reasons. No need to post them to the list unless you feel compelled. Personal e-mail is okay. While I'm at it, does anyone have the address of the feg archives? I can't find it anywhere. Thanx in advance, Glen E.
