The actual circumstances were: 1985: Robyn is living in a shitty little house in Crouch End, around the corner from Andy Kershaw (the house is horrible, but has a stunning view over Alexandra Park/Palace and Muswell Hill). REM are in London recording _Fables_. Robyn took his cat to the Cats Protection League office in Junction Road, Archway (still there, with a Cat Ambulance with an extremely loud siren which wakes me up almost every night). An (allegedly very tired and emotional) Peter Buck was there trying to buy a kitten. He recognised Robyn as the face from the back of his favourite album, _Underwater Moonlight_ and got chatting; Robyn ended up lending him his cat for a week. An accurate version of this is in an interview with Robyn on WXRT Chicago in 1989. A full transcription of this interview appears in issue 4 of _Positive Vibrations_; unless my memory mistakes me, it's also on the _PVs_ page on the www. RE: > I'd like to see the magazine in its entirety--though, because interspersed (sp?) between the put-downs was some really good writing and lots of interesting tidbits. The ratio of good reviews to bad reviews over the first 5 issues of _PVs_ was 26:4; also, (as we never fail to drag up) our review of _1976-81_, which attracted a barrage of abuse from Robyn's management for its 'negativity', was recently quoted almost verbatim by Robyn. The main reason you see the more negative bits on the net is that they're some of the few bits that I have permission to reprint; also, the controversial bits are more interesting. The general tone of much of the magazine veers towards the fawning, but those bits are much less interesting to read. If you want to read the whole thing, you could do worse than send L2.50 or 6 IRCs to _Positive Vibrations_, PO Box 41, 63 Canden High Street, London N19 7TJ... And if you want something different in there, you only have to write it! This may also be the time to point out that _PVs_ balance between criticism, adulation and information was cited by _Record Collector_ as the main reason for awarding it Best Fanzine ("A one way ticket to fanzine heaven and back", as I recall). This may also be the time to point out that the _PVs_ book (tentatively entitled _Inexplicable Traces_) is beginning to take shape. If you have any suggestions as to what could go in, be it new writing, reprints or transcriptions, please get in touch. Love on you Aidan "Drive through miles of snow covered fields. Respect: (13,3) The Yip Song, Surgery, When I Was Dead, Railway Shoes, Wreck of the Arthur Lee, Radio Storm, Satellite, Allright Yeah!, Mr. Rock'N'Roll, Balloon Man, Child of the Universe, Listening to the Higsons, Flesh Cartoons +The Fly, Vegetable Friend, Wafflehead I think that Wafflehead, along with Superman and Happy the Golden Prince are more geared to bonus tracks and compilation albums... And if anyone besides me wants to discuss the way I've re-arranged all of Robyn's Egyptians albums [and Eye]..
