I've got this, but taping is a bit of a problem right now. If you get no other responses contact me and I'll see what I can do. "Deck of Cards" was recorded at the Portland Arms, I think, and I might be wrong but I believe it's Andy narrating a story which sounded VERY familiar the first time I heard it (if anyone knows the origins of this tale or more about the recording please share!). Sound quality is poor--it's hard to make out some of the words--and the fact that it's on a scratchy flexi doesn't help. A definite rarity. -Russ. Thanks for helping me access some deep dark recesses of my memory! I'd forgotten until your post, but I now remember him doing this routine several times (in the Portland Arms days, I guess). Someone asked this question about one of the opening acts for Robyn in Portland, Oregon. Jeff Moris (or Morris) Tepper was a member of Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band in the period 1978-81 or thereabouts and appears on the SHINY BEAST and DOC AT THE RADAR STATION albums, and also, I think, on ICE CREAM FOR CROW. He is a great guitar player and performed ONE RED ROSE THAT I MEAN as a solo piece during some Beefheart concerts (which appears on LICK MY DECALS OFF BABY performed by Zoot Horn Rollo {Bill Harkleroad} ). I haven't seen him for fifteen years, though, so he may have developed a Vegas cabaret act in the meantime - but I doubt it. Justin Sherrill, who runs a Beefheart page called "Home Page Replica" at http://www.rit.edu/~jcs1589/hpr.html (where there is more Tepper info) will be along on the tour, I believe.
