I personally want, no check that, *need* to see what would happen if he teamed up with Superchunk. More than once I've wondered what the utterly manic and harmony-less Superchunk would do with some of the more frantic Soft Boys tunes. To mark her 30th birthday, I wanted to use a quote from Robyn's Rolling Stone interview (4/15/93) upon his turning 40: "I'm going to have a party, 'cause you can either let it sneak by and act like it's not happening or celebrate the fact you've lasted that long. Obviously you're deteriorating physically, getting fatter, blotchier, slower, more repellant and incapable. You're apt to become little more than plasma with a series of infantile impulses, desparately clawing at society's throat, asking for mercy. But in that respect, you're just like everybody else. So what can you do but have a party?" Naturally, I wanted to attribute the quote, but when I entered "Robyn Hitchcock" some friggin alarm went off and the machine spat back "we are not allowed to print that word." I tried repeatedly, but the computer's morality chip wouldn't let me print 'Hitchcock.' I had to settle for just plain Robyn. Go figure. (BTW, beings that the machines were relatively new at that time, quite a little crowd had gathered round in the busy Target store while I was designing the card, and I felt like quite the degenerate when I was rejected on 'moral' grounds.)
