With a nod to the cumbersome ambiguities of the >English language and communication via E-mail, I'll allow seven days to be >defined as several weeks. First of all, BIX's mail connection was down from the 20th of July to the 31'st, and only just became normal this week. Therefore everything was held in queue. Please write to BIX if you don't believe me (which you probably don't, so I don't even know why I'm bothering, since you'll take that as somehow related to my band). It's entirely possible that the post on the second was actually written in late-July, but I don't keep things hanging around that long, and if they're older than a week, rarely, if ever, do I look at them once they're read. I'm flattered you kept my posts in your in-file and took the time to parrose them again. >As a musician myself (mentioned merely to emphasize my empathy, man), I'm >moved by your enthusiasM. And if you plugged yourself and your band oh, >say, once per month, I would nary have posted. If you've gained a >following on the list, why not send them private E-mail by bulk? If there's too >many of them to do this, why not make your own list, as I suggested? I've read your out-of-context quotes again, and there's TWO, count 'em, TWO posts that directily plug the band. The others are, like I said, examples written to answer questions asked, but since you won't buy that, again, I'm not sure why I'm bothering. >It's the constant deflection by you to you that impatient buffoons like myself don't >particularly care for. Possibly I'm simply ignorant of your greatness and it's >relationship to Robyn Hitchcock, despite your repeated attempts to enlighten me. I don't see ANYONE else here complaining about "constant deflection" (could it be beacuse it dosen't exist?) But I suppose when words are taken out of context you can make anyone say anything. As far as "greatness," when have I EVER said, "My band is so great..." go get me _that_ quote, then we'll talk. And no more posts taken out of context. Find me the post where I said those exact words. >No. I believe one of the few reasonably clear messages of the bible is >that one should practice humility. Another is that one shouldn't cast stones, >but I'm by no means religious man ;-) Ah. So now the Bible's brought into this. Next you'll be saying that I'm constantly posting how god-like I am. So to deflect _that_ before it happens, hey, I'm only human, and one of the most common human failings is pride. So if it's a sin to be proud of what my band's done, consider me a sinner. >Yes, it is. And then I immediately refuse to walk around the entire room >making sure everyone heard my name and my reaction. Again... if you had KEPT THE POST IN CONTEXT, you would have seen that ***I*** DID NOT MENTION THE BAND NOR MY MUSIC IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM. Let's look at it again, this time in the proper context. Bayard (NOT ME) said: >>Oh yes, also some Other Days scans (featuring that fuzzy-headed fellow). and then I responded: >Yeah, and I'm even fuzzier since I'm a month and a half overdue for a >haircut. I forgot how much I missed having lots of hair, so I'm gonna see >how "long" I can get away with it in work. BAYARD mentioned our picture was in the fegmania site. I would like you to show me where in this post I start talking about my godlike powers. >First of all, I haven't read a single post by Terry that begins, "Well, >Mikester, please tell me something about your band or yourself, using as a >starting point...(insert appropriate Robyn Hitchcock subject here) So what the @#$% am I supposed to do? Not answer his question? AGAIN, and I'm sick of re-itterating myself, I don't sit here and say "Great, another place where I can turn a discussion towards myself." No, I say, "hey, here's a question I can answer from my own experience." If you're a musician, why didn't you answer his question? >You gave an informed and arrogant answer. Again, if the logistics of >dividing your band's royalties are of general interest, they might be >better discussed in an "Other Days" list. If I remember correctly, your first >sentence in that post answered the question. The remaining several >sentences only served to contribute to the ever-growing Other Days canon, >which may well be better served by it's own list. Anyone can twist anything that's said to their own interpratation, consiously or not. I don't like to give answers without examples to back them up. You DON'T know me, despite the fact that you seem to have a team of psychologists working out my psychological profile based on a relitively few posts. >The conveyence of musical sound through ASCII text had absolutely nothing to >do with the discussion, although it would be a hell of a lot more interesting and >appropriate than the conditions of a listmember's hair or the layout of his >drummer's house. Taken out of context YET AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU BOTHERED TO READ ANYTHING BEYOND YOUR PERSONAL INTERPRATATIONS YOU'D SEE: The hair thing WAS A JOKE!!!!! The drummer's house thing was started by Terry. He said he recorded his GF tunes "behind a couch." I responded (by the way, Terry's post was directed at me) that we recorded our new tape around some furniture too. So a bit of light-hearted humor and in-jokes are now forbidden on the Robyn Hitchcock list? Then this ain't the list I signed up for a year and a half ago. Please, Todd, if you're gonna quote me, stop taking it out of context. If you bothered to read the threads these posts were in, you'd see how they related to the conversations at hand. Jeffery with two, count 'em two f's said: >Geez, how ironic: a whole thread that's basically about Other >Days--started by a guy complaining that there were too many posts about >Other Days. I'd rather get a bad reaction out of someone than no reaction at all. I was almost tempted to send the guy a tape, but I didn't want to waste the tape and postage. It's a fault of mine, and I'm sorry you all had to be subjected to it. The absolute last thing I'll say about this whole mess is that if Todd had, instead of trying to embarrass me publicly, mailed me privately and said something to the effect of, "Hey, this isn't a flame, but it seems as though you're plugging your band alot lately. Unless you are looking at a *very* different animal than anything i've ever heard of before, 1.3k$ won't get you anywhere *near* being able to make audio cds. For that price, the recorder probably doesn't even include any software (typically about 2k$) But the big catch is, you need to get the audio data into a magnetic format before you can lay it on the disc. That means that you need a good audio card that can capture 44KHz stereo (150$ and up) and more importantly, a hard drive that can stream the data at that rate -- other wise you get weird drop outs -- maybe every seven or eight seconds you'll miss a tenth of the second. (I recommend the Micropolis AV 1 Gig drives, FWIW -- about a grand) You'll also need a SCSI adapter if you don't have one already. sorry if this is a bit of a letdown... doug [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sat, 12 Aug 1995 20:00:32 -0400 From: am497@freenet.Buffalo.EDU (Michael J. The fact that he was a black activist and journalist probably did not contribute favorably to his plea. After years on death row, he has become news. He was scheduled for execution on August 17th, but as of yesterday, the judge ordered a stay of execution, pending appeal. It sounds a bit like an A, but doesn't sound like one in the intro Intro: D ?? A E D ?? A E The leaves on the table are all turning grey the first time she saw you, she hoped you were gay it's hard to recover when you're the disease But I'm ready, I swear it, I'm walking around in my D A D Railway shoes D A E in my Railway shoes The ghost of your father is right by your side He's so close to you that he's almost inside He's guiding your hand as he's guiding your limbs but he isn't you and you know you're not him in your Railway shoes in my Railway shoes E Take the train, take the other train mister and standby E D E Take the train, take the other train honey and ride Madam, I burn for you night after day I'm empty without you and colder than clay The wax on my body is making me cold but I'll never be able to go where I'm told in my Railway shoes in my Railway shoes [If I do "Then You're Dust" later tonight, and someone corrects this, the entire album will be finished...first time that's been done.. So I'm a bit obsessive with tabbing things out...It's summer.
