I'm trying to get a number of the people in South Florida in this group. So far I know of three, including myself. If you haven't sent me mail saying that you're in South Florida, send me mail saying that. Oh and could someone send me the words to A Can of Bees so that I can start tabbing it out? Or if none of you do this, I'll write it out myself, but I'd really rather figure out the chords than the words. Or, for that matter, sending out a copy of the lyrics to "I Often Dream of Trains"(the album). I don't have a copy of this one, so I can't do that myself. Oh..and I'm building a small [7 room] Robyn Hitchcock based area on a MU* here..I'll send you more details when I'm finished with it.. Keep eyes peeled sometime in the next 9-12 months for a Paul Fox-produced record by a Minneapolis group, Rex Daisy. Fox produced two songs on a 7" they just put out on Ginger Records (in Chicago). Very pop, very melodic. Their sound is very much descended from Beatles to early Who to Big Star to Replacements. (My connection is working at the U of MN radio station, and we just got this single in. Funny you should mention Paul Fox). Paul Fox also produced Victoria Williams last album. But what I meant, I think, was record company, not studio..I'm not quite into the technical side of music yet. I'm still not entirely sure how harmonics work, and even less sure that artificial harmonics exist. The word "chimera" (or "chimaera") would fit: "a fire-breathing she monster in Greek mythology having a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail; an imaginary monster compounded of incongruous parts" "an illusion or fabrication of the mind; an unrealisable dream" Groetjes, Susan p.s. The painting on the Respect t-shirt washes well; it doesn't flake. It also looks nice under a jacket, since the characters are wearing them. Are things copyrighted >to the Soft Boys on earlier (non-Ryko) releases? 'Cause Robyn wrote them. The way most bands work is whoever wrote the song gets the copyright. The way my band's always worked it is whoever the song wouldn't exist without is the writer. Mostly how my band works it is I (or the bassist) will bring in a completed song, with melody, chords, and lyrics. Then we all sit down and knock it about. Gradually, the arrangement will emerge and we'll have a new song. But since I was the one who brought the idea in and the song wouldn't have existed without me, so, I'm the one who gets credit. OTHO, if we start jamming on something and it ends up a song, we all get the credit, and the rights. >Unless, of course, he was just slurring "Gamera", in which case he's >comparing the woman to a large rubber Japanese turtle-like thing :) That's my opinion, actually. 8) ---Mike (Nickname o' the month - Guy who's roomate's his bass player) Check out the Other Days home page at http://www1.usa1.com/~mikeb/odays.html mikester@bix.com mikeb@usa1.com [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Wed, 09 Aug 95 08:13:45 From: Russ Reynolds To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: More Q's "Chimera", as it so happens, is the name of the record store in Palo Alto where I purchased Underwater Moonlight back in 1980--my introduction to Mr. H.
