Is anyone listening? Promo Singles Robyn in B-Side Robyn on Acoustic Cafe Tape tree: GLASS FLESH Vera Lynn vera lynn [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Tue, 18 Jul 1995 12:12:19 -0400 (EDT) From: Stephen C Ellis To: FEGMANIAX@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: Robyn on Acoustic Cafe I just wanted to post to the list that Robyn will be the featured in-studio artist on this week's nationally syndicated Acoustic Cafe show. For those that haven't been listening to Acoustic Cafe, it is a two hour show that each week features a different live in-studio session with a singer-songwriter. This sesssion with Robyn was taped in April of this year when Robyn played the Ark in Ann Arbor. (The show is produced in Ann Arbor). With the live-in studio interviews/performances, the show breaks it down into one 10-15 segment (with two live songs in the first hour) and another 10-15 segment during the second hour (with two more live songs). I talked with the host this week and he said that all the songs Robyn performed (and he actually performed more than just the four we will hear) were "new" songs with the exception of Egyptian Creme and Arms of Love. Hope you all get a chance to pick this up this weekend. [][][][][][][][][][] From: mad5c@server.cs.virginia.edu Subject: Circle Jerks again To: fegmaniax Date: Tue, 18 Jul 1995 15:23:05 -0400 (EDT) Well, the Circle Jerks are making a second round on MTV, and this time there's a video for (you guessed it), which will be their first single off their major label debut. I am not making this up. To be honest, I think they've done the song justice. In an interview given by Kurt Loder (as in "Kurt Loder Must Die"), they refer to the song in question as "an ugly pop song", which pretty much fits. I've never been a CJ fan, nor a Debbie Gibson fan, for that matter, but as long as they spell "R. Hitchcock" correctly I don't mind if they play whatever of his they want. Maybe their next project will be a stem-to-stern cover of "A Can of Bees", complete with extra tracks. One can only hope. I too have recently had a RH dream, but I'm not going to share it with you now. Check it out. oh yeah. i've been meaning to mention this, but i keep forgetting. robyn has also appeared in quite a few of the b-side back issues. i've ordered them all and will post the details when they arrive (allow 6-8 weeks for delivery). there was a capsule review of the rhino _invisible hits_ issue in the july issue of stereo review. since it's not worth buying for a single paragraph, here it is in all its capitalized glory: "Long over-due reissue of Robyn Hitchcock's equivalent of The Who's _Odds and Sods_ -- which means it includes a hard-to-find EP plus various rare B-sides and other empherema, all of it vastly entertaining and sui generis [huh?]. This guy's so good the Britsh should nationalize him." -- Steve Simels i looked through my video stuff and found: - the 1987 120 minutes appearance (first generation dub) - the 120 minutes appearance where he perfomed "wax doll" (1991?) - the 120 minute hosted at tramp's in nyc while robyn'n'the egyptians played their secret industry gig (no, you can't see me in the audience) - the day in rock spotlight on that gig - various letterman/conan/dennis miller appearances there might be more stuff buried in the nooks and canies of other tapes. maybe. woj [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Tue, 18 Jul 1995 16:58:06 -0400 (EDT) From: Bayard To: the keepers of souls , kctaper@aol.com, klong@nysernet.org, ericv@moran.org, scott_a._frank@fc1.glfn.org, brodia@delphi.com, epb3r@fermi.clas.virginia.edu, dap@inetdirect.net Subject: Tape tree: GLASS FLESH Here it is: the _GLASS FLESH_ robyn hitchcock tribute tape tree. As you can see, it's a baobab of sorts, with big, thick digital branches and lots of noble twigs sticking out. I have tried very hard to keep the audio quality as close to perfect as possible (SCMS-free digital dubs and first-generation analog) but due to the far greater number of analog types, this may not be entirely possible. Those with lower-grade equipment may get 2nd-gen copies (and probably will not care or notice the difference). This tape tree has coincided with my entry into the digital realm and consequently I'm being kind of a digit-butt about it. Then again, much of my time and money has gone into achieving the best tape possible; I hope you enjoy the results. Get back to me asap if you have any comments or questions. It's not too late to join the tree but it looks like it's too late for a 1st generation copy. (although sebastian hagedorn could most likely make a few more, if you don't mind going international). Feel free to contact me if: - you're not on the tree, and want to join (unfortunately, any additional analog twigs will have to be second generation tapes, it seems. you may wish to request an analog-analog dub from Mike or Fred. If you're not happy with your position in the tree, I'm sorry-- I did the best I could. You might wish to negotiate with a different branch, but I believe the DAT-analog branches are maxed out.) - you're not sure how a tree works (simply put, the branches make copies for a lot of people who in turn provide them with either blank tapes or live robyn stuff; **contact your branch/your leaves** to work out the details, such as address, noise reduction preference if any, whether tape boxes should be mailed, etc) - i've placed you below someone else besides me (walden) but I owe you tapes or we've discussed a trade. I've given myself the most leaves, so if you can stick with the person I've grouped you with, it would mean a lot to me. For those just joining us, the tribute project is 180 minutes of robyn hitchcock covers performed by the international community of internet robyn fans and their feg friends and acquaintances, including vic chesnutt and soon- to-be-big-time-music-makers Mark Gloster and Big Rubber Shark (Cali.) and Other Days (Boston), plus a lot of other lovely and talented people from the US, NZ, CA, and Wales. It includes groovy colored and informative j cards desktop published by Mark and his wife Donne, including her artwork and artwork of Philip Downs of UK. (speaking of the j cards, this here's your last chance to give me info to put in them if you haven't)... J cards will probably be mailed to the main branches separately for inclusion in the packages for twigs. I hope to have the complete j card info to Donne and the finished DATs en route to Thomas and Bill by the end of this weekend. Contact your parent (the person up and left of you) or your children (indented below you) and please also verify your email address (it may be included in more than one place if you are both digital and analog). Without further ado, here tis.... DAT-DAT ~~~~~~~ +these are people with two DAT machines who are making copies.
