My mail system crashed on me, so bear with me if you have already heard this stuff before: 1) I found the "My wife and My Dead Wife" CD Single at a MEDIA PLAY store here in Buffalo. Strange, I thought. 2) Robyn Hitchcock is mentioned as a musical powerhouse of sorts in Bill Flanagan's article in MUSICIAN (August 1995) in the article on McCartney and Costello(MacManus). If you want the address ask.) Got 'Waves'. Review: It's ok. Katrina's voice reminds me a bit of Cindy Lauper, which probably puts me rather off of it. Also, the lead guitar is drowned out by the rhythm guitar. If they took the rhythm guitar out of the album, I'd probably like it. Only two songs really give Kimberly a chance to shine, 'Is that it' and 'Stop trying to prove'. I like parts of this album, but you can't really tell that Kimberly is there. Btw...anyone know is 'Shock Horror' or any of their other albums are any different? Also more of kimberly in the mix, as i recall...but the real telling point is that the eponymous record made it into the cd player about a month ago, while _waves_ hasn't been there in years... I haven't heard it, but it sounds interesting. There seems to be a mini-vogue developing around that song--Milwaukee's Blow Pops did a cover of the same song on a local labels "tribute" to the '80s, _Gag Me With a Spoon_.
