Musically speaking, they're both adoptive sons of Syd Barrett, which is where the connection probably lies. 3) On an only vaguely related note, Robyn and Julian are two of those rare artists who have had an album who's title track has appeared on a different album. I think the main difference between them is simple: Robyn got better over time and Julian completely lost every ounce of talent he ever had. Julian wrote my all time #1 favorite song, "The Great Dominions" EARLY in his career. Robyn CONTINUES to write other favorites, (Ride, Railway Shoes, Aurther Lee...) Robyn is sane. Julian is not. Robyn is funny. Julian thinks he's funny. Oh, I could go on, but why? Anyone interested in Cope should go straight to the Teardrop's album "Wilder". It's really one of the great moments in musical history. Cope albums tend to have only a few good songs. Jehovakill was the last straw, so I have yet to hear Autogedon. I'm currently reading "Head On", Julian's autobiography. It is really really cool. I wish he would get his act together. The Great Dominions... I'm going to put it on right now. PS- Cope appears on ALL 3 Teardrop albums. Also, Piano,(1990) which is another compilation... Sorry for the rant. Cope's a REALLY sore spot. I always thought Bowie had a reptilian mouth, half-expecting a long pointed tongue to flick out when he sings those high notes. Both of the above songs sound like they've derived from the Stones. As I was saying, it appears one of these tapings made it to video which I found at a local show. That's not very ethical, overall, if that in fact is what happened, but I'd be willing to help pass on such a thing to add to a tree, or even be a tree. speaking of 9:30, DC, just a few months ago I saw the first of two shows there, but not the second due to illness. I wouldn't have even known what it was except that Jill Sobule (and Brad) were playing. Those of you that were able to see Robyn's recent solo show know that Jill was one of the opening acts. Well, I taped Jill's set, and then Dan Akroyd says..."We'll be right back after these messages with....RON SEXSMITH." Ron opened for Robyn during last fall's West Coast tour, Canadian dates only. He writes very pretty folk songs, metamorphosed by Mitchell Froom's production. Anyway, just thought it was weird that two Robyn openers played on the same show.
