I remember seeing setlists from the first couple of gigs from the US tour that mentioned this song. My question is: Is this a real tune, or is it Robyn making a funny? Or were you fellow Fegs just playing on our (my) obsessions? With a song like Queen Elvis coming out an album after THE ALBUM Queen Elvis, it makes me wonder. Hey, maybe he can get Nick Mason, Rick Wright, and Roger Waters back to form by playing Syd Barrett, too (I mean, he could certainly outrun them--although they outweight him, if it came to a fight). Hmm... I'm not sure if Robyn can still do a good Syd impersonation. 'Vegetable Man' was near perfect, but now, Robyn has changed it seems. For one, when he improvises, it makes sense. I've got a version of Mr. Rock & Roll with completely different lyrics that he probably made up on the spot. When Syd got lost in a song, he got *lost*, and usually wound up repeating half of the first verse. And Syd Barrett would have enough sense to stay away from a song like 'I Something You'. (I hate this song...it's as if he took the first 3 lines of an e. e. cummings poem and just kept repeating them to a rather bland melody). And just the thought of Syd Barrett doing 'Perspex Island' scares me, for some reason...I think it was that that album was just too sane for me. I say get Robyn, Rick Wakeman (from Yes) om Keyboards, .... I can't think of anyone right now. THe rest of you ought to send mail to me or to the group on a 'fill in the ultimate band' sort of thing. And no, you can't just send in the Egyptians or the Soft Boys...be creative. Cc: A.N.Pryke@cs.bham.ac.uk Hi All, thought you might want to know that there's a Phoenix festival web page at http://www.cerberus.co.uk/cdj/phoenix/index.html Robyn is playing on the Carlsberg stage on Saturday (15th July). The info page mentiones "Celebrity five-a-side football", wonder if Robyn's got a team together yet? Perhaps it's time for a fantasy-celebrity-football thread (or perhaps not). I'd love to go to this, it's on my doorstep, but I've booked a Holiday to Ireland, starting on the Saturday. Damn! The bland melody is essential so it can lead up to the "in this kind of song the middle bits are so predictable" before the unpredictable section. I like 'I Something You'. It takes the piss and makes me hiss (with laughter that is).
