Only trouble is, Robyn's anti-computer I hear, or if he's kidding about that he's still pretty computer-neutral. Though he's got friends who use computers and the net, I doubt they can persuade him it's an overall good trend (nor would they probably want to.) How about this: A 4-cd boxed set with full-color hardcover book (profusely illustrated, of course) with CD's containing both audio and data, a virtual reality journey into a Globe of Frogs, travel to Perspex Island via the Ghost Ship. Enter the mind of Robyn. Now how much would you pay? Well, we can all dream.... Enter the mind of Robyn. > Now how much would you pay? Hmm... *Hopefully* Robyn would give us all free copies for being loyal fans. He's probably never heard of us before, and may be a bit miffed at us for acting like we know him on a first name basis (I for one have never seen him, and doubt that he's been in my state in the last 10 years). Barring that and any other miracles (ie. Robyn replacing John in a Beatles Reunion, which winds up putting out the lost Radar album, only it sounds really good this time and has 'Scream thy Last Scream' and 'What's Up Maryjane')... About $150 or so, Willing to pay more if it came with a Shruti Box, Shawm, Serpent Guitar, Anglepoise Lamp, or Iron Sledge. Willing to pay a lot more if it came with something like Matthew Seligman or Morris Windsor (Robyn may not be computer hostile, but he's not computer-friendly enough to be issued in a CD-Rom box set...) > > Well, we can all dream.... > Maybe Robyn'll do a cover of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech? (It could replace I Something You...) Terry "The Human Mellotron" Marks PS. If anyone does have a copy of the apocryphical Beatles/Pink FLoyd song 'What's Up Mary Jane' (or 'What's News Mary-Jane' or whatever permutation of that sort of thing the title is), I *really* want a copy. E-mail me, no? "Arms of Love"? Worth picking up? It can be found for @$3.00 at stores like Tower records. It has the flexi and an interview with Peter Buck. The song is a good working of the song but kinda common as a R.E.M rarity. It was put on many CD singles to death already in the UK and throughout Europe. I can locate the address if anyone needs to order it. They still sell the Femme Fatale flexi REM did and I think you can still get "Surgery" and "A Day in the Life" by Robyn. Don't order any BOB stuff from dealers as they still have most of 'em for a very reasonable price( and you get the magazine as well) This is the Delaware based BOB, not Bucketfull of Brains BTW. >>>Got the K single last week. Pretty cool. I'd love to hear the Soft Boys >>>version of "Zipper in my Spine" They did that on a BBC session last year and it's also on the Mrs. Wafflehead tape, "Where are the Prawns?" Quite good with a full band (I prefer the BBC set w/ Kimberley). I asked Robyn if he could play it at the Tin Angel in Philly and he said he was surprised I found the single and said it would be hard to do himself but he did play it in the first show, the electric portion. Has any one else caught "Zipper" live? Just curious. rob z (walking on sunshine) aka robert.zarzecki@radiowave.com trades encouraged :-) PS-the Current issue of "Huh" magazine has a 1 1/2 page write up on Robyn. I can post it if anyone is interested...... I didn't even know there was one. Great bonus tracks-- would've been nice additions to the embarrassingly short Respect (what is it-- 35 minutes?) Wouldn't have appeased the die hards much, though-- nor would've it have lifted the rather dark mood. Still-- I love 'em. G D A D Even tried Voodoo outside your home, G D A / but these days I couldn't care less. G D A / She doesn't exist any more, G D A / She doesn't exist any more. I let her go like the fool that I was, thought I'd get over her soon. I smell her perfume when my eyes are closed, and I see her face in the moon. She doesn't exist any more, She doesn't exist any more. I tell myself it would be different now, I wouldn't treat her that way. I wouldn't be me if she wasn't her, and it's far too late, anyway. 'Cos she doesn't exist any more, She doesn't exist any more. Only inside you the ghost of the love, that is wordless and painful and old. I've since heard the Soft Boys rendition and must confess that I prefer it being driven along by a band. I keep waiting for the drums to come in when I hear the K7" version - though they'd never fit through my door. Simon [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Wed, 28 Jun 1995 07:14:52 -0400 From: das freshmaker! I'd love to hear the Soft Boys >>>>version of "Zipper in my Spine" >They did that on a BBC session last year and it's also on the Mrs. Wafflehead >tape, "Where are the Prawns?" i put the bbc session on _netsurfer ghost_ as well. speaking of which, someone asked me to post the track listing: side a: shuffling over the flagstones/de chirico street/i something you/ filthy bird/sinister but happy/i am not me/surfer ghost/statue with a walkman/her silver wands/wide open star/beautiful queen/heliotrope side b: man with a woman's shadow/woman in you/zipper in my spine/cheese you/rabbit train//1995 mountain stage the songs i put on side b are kinda throwaway. "zipper in my spine" isn't, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the new material. "woman in you" and "man with a woman's shadow" just don't gel for me, though i suspect that the latter will eventually make it to the real album (hey, he made a shirt for it!). "rabbit train" is a joke track, but more premeditated than, say, "meat home". i *really* like the order of the last four songs on side a. "her silver wands" sets the stage, "wide open star" continues the mood, "beautiful queen" is a slightly jarring third piece (beware the fruminous violin on that one, folks! the levels are *very* hot, courtesy of the mix at the ark) and "heliotrope" is a achingly beautiful side closer. i hope he uses that as the last track on _surfer ghost_ eventually. "sinister but happy" is my other favorite track. the violin is not as hot, but it's the heart of the song. i'd like to hear impressions of this tape when other people get their grimy fingers on it. woj ps. i'm going to be off the net from thursday morning till sunday night. digest subscribers be warned of pending delays.
