To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu About 5 five years ago I read an article or interview which stated that Robyn was working on a book for children (sorry, I can't remember the source of this). Does anyone know what became of this project? I think this is some- thing that he would be great at! Sorry if this has already been discussed at length! Prior to taking over as frontman for Dennis & the Experts (soon renamed 'the Soft Boys'), it is said that Robyn was in such groups as the Symptoms, the Worst Fears, and Maureen and the Meatpackers. Very little is known about these times, but some hints about the Symptoms can be found in the book _The Punk Diary_. I don't know if he was in these groups before he left London, or if they too were Cambridge bands. Feh! To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Well , now that I go the mail and get the Surfer Ghost tapes I truely question the need to get the compo now, especially if the song sounds just like the live performance...its good, but not worth 11 bucks.... jay ( the cheap sod in Houston) %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Jay Lyall "Capy Toad Blast" "Who wants a life anyway?" hist1a@jetson.uh.edu --Elastica University of Houston "I'm a pigworker, momma, "We'll inherit the Earth, And I'm gonna work my pig on you." Records in Merrillville, Indiana and found the Sequel sampler and "My Wife And My Dead Wife" single with the k records tracks. I, too, debated about purchasing the discs (not long!) but Robyn is always a must-have. I loved SWAW at the most recent Chicago show, so I really wanted to hear the studio version. Plus, having the 7" single tracks on CD was too tempting. I got home after PJ (who was incredible live) and Carey and I simultaneously said to each other, "Hey, you wanna hear Statue With A Walkman now?" So laughing, we slapped in the disc, heard Robyn's voice and beautiful melodies and instrumentation, marvelled at Robyn's ability to create original pop hooks now that EVERYTHING seems to have already been used...and we kept grinning (like melons!) I loved everything about it, from the "old geezer" voice ("seems to meeeeee like he's a stationary duuuude...yeah..!")to the piano, to the smiling photos of Robyn on the covers. Especially the open/closed eye effect on "Wife" EP. Good to see the usually photo-phobic RH smiling. After the song was finished, Carey and I became verbal again and both decided it WAS worth the eleven bucks. For one song that I can play always that I like. In a year, I won't miss the eleven bucks and I'll have the track. And it was even fun tracking it down like in a scavenger hunt. I also tracked down the "Robyn Hitchcock The Golden Prince" book for only six bucks at the Subterranean bookstore in Fort Wayne, Indiana and that is well worth it...lots of articles I'd never seen before reproduced in a thick volume. The cover has an RH cartoon of the line "Now there's tiny insects showing through/ And all them tiny insects look like you" complete with wasps (similar to Can Of Bees cover) pouring out from the hatched eggs underneath that poor bastard's chin! Superb! I guess my point in all this is to say, IMHO, if you are a listener of RH's music, then blow the cash on these items. I'll only feel robbed if "Statue" shows up on the next album. On a different note...RE: "do they know what I'm doing next?"- I wish, if Robyn is reading this...(this may be futile but what the hell...) *talking to Robyn now thru cyberspace* Robyn...i know you are anti-computer. You mentioned that after the Chicago show when I asked you about the fegs list. But I also think that you love to throw little extras out there for those who are paying attention...cartoons, short stories, bonus tracks, etc. I wish you could see woj's fegs list as a possible extension of that fun. Join in and talk with us (we won't pry!) or, leave us cryptic utterances or utter bulls**t! You gotta have a friend that'll let you use his/her computer. Maybe the one showing you this! Even not knowing what your intentions were with the first message, I thought it was great that you at least know we are here, and you get inspired to chat sometime in whatever form. Or maybe, set up your own web-page to show off your drawings/paintings and have a chat room set up in there if you really get inspired to meet and talk with us. (That should read "hope you get inspired to chat" in the last sentence...sorry I'm running off at the mouth) Anyway, thanks for the entertainment. *end of message to Robyn* Go on fegs, mock me now...oh well, i tried...hope I didn't sound like I was kissin' his figs...Maybe he'll chime in...ya never know...
