Anyway, I'd like to be on the tree, actually just the receiving end, I don't really have the capabilities to do any quality dubbing. Please send info to: gabe_zashin@shi.com p.s. I couldn't send e-mail directly to "walden" for some reason [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Fri, 2 Jun 1995 12:10:29 -0400 From: Roy Rubinstein To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: Robyn on Conan On last night's Conan O'Brien they said that Robyn would be on tonight's show. (Actually they said "tomorrow", but that means tonight. :-) ) This was something stuck in for last night's broadcast, not part of the original, which was a repeat. So if you want to see him, you might try tonight. Roy [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Fri, 2 Jun 1995 12:13:50 -0400 To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu From: jojones@mailbox.syr.edu (John B. WILL [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sat, 03 Jun 1995 08:26:11 -0500 (CDT) From: MILES GOOSENS Subject: Arms of Love To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu This may have been answered already, but when you only are able to access the internet on a bi-weekly basis because of administrative foul-ups on your account ("Are you registered for the fall?" "No..." "Have you graduated?" "No, but I'm HERE UNTIL AUGUST, DAMMIT..."): One of the R.E.M. import singles in support of AFTP has "Arms of Love" as a b-side, and it is in the Automatic box. The version on the PETA compilation is a Stipe solo version. They mention that the CD contains the famous 1978 gigs at Portland Arms and Lady Mitchell Hall. My question to any of you that have this: Is this basically the LIVE AT THE PORTLAND ARMS album with the Lady Mitchell tracks added on???? If it is then this is a Holy Grail of sorts for me, and I must have it. LATPA is a favorite album of mine, and I would die to have a CD of it in my collection. If it is not the LATPA album, then what is it? Was Portland Arms strictly an acoustic folk club, or would the Soft Boys have played their typically electric set there on another date??? Finally, I believe there are some parallels between Elvis Costello's PUNCH THE CLOCK & GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD and Robyn's PERSPEX ISLAND & RESPECT. I decided that this week as I purchased the latest EC rereleases on Rykodisc. TTFN. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- John B. Sadly, no, this has nothing to do with LATPA. The tracks come from the following performances: 1-10; Live at the Lady Mitchell Hall, Cambridge 11/27/78 11-14; Live at Leicester University, 1978 15-17; Live at the Lady Mitchell Hall, Cambridge, 3/78 18; Rehearsal session, exact date unknown In fact, the version of "Wading Through A Ventilator" is the same one that's on the Ryko compilation. I'm not sure if there are any other tracks in common. (and i don't think conan's being cutesy about the guitar counts for much) (i was fast-forwarding through the rest of the show, and the chat with mimi certainly seemed to go on long enough. yak, yak, smirk, grab the edge of the desk, pause to let conan get some mugging in) and it sounded like conan said that "you & oblivion" was the first rhino rerelease. so much for doing his homework i've never watched the show before, so i don't know how typical the format was: maybe the 'musical guest' never gets to say much. but i also got the impression that they couldn't quite handle him. there were conan and his other two guests, looking sleek and self-satisfied and babbling on about pauly shore movies (ick), and there was robyn looking shaggy and sinister and as if who knew what he might say given the opportunity talk about a culture clash [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sun, 4 Jun 1995 19:25:17 -0400 From: panic in the lingerie To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: Re: conan at last Elisabeth Perrin sez: >i've never watched the show before, so i don't know how typical the >format was: maybe the 'musical guest' never gets to say much. robyn's appearance on conan o'brien was pretty typical. talk show appearances rarely amount to more than an opportunity for the band or singer to promote themselves via one song - usually the single, if there is one. occasionally, if there is some time to kill, there might some chat with the musical guest, but that is rare. that said, i thought the whole thing was really quite good, aside from conan's minor confusion about what _you and oblivion_ is. the sound was excellent and the performance fine. robyn looked comfortable during the song and was sufficiently personable afterwards. he's also one of the few musical guests whom conan doesn't look up to. >and there was robyn looking shaggy and >sinister and as if who knew what he might say given the opportunity "shaggy and sinister". i like that. yeah, i guess he looked like he could fly off the handle at anytime. meredith commented that he seemed like he didn't want to be there, but i didn't get that vibe at all. granted, i'm sure there were other places that he might rather have been, but he didn't seem annoyed by the whole situation. maybe he's just a good actor. woj [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sun, 4 Jun 1995 16:23:02 -0700 From: librik@netcom.com (David Librik) To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: Re: conan at last (lame joke ahead) Elisabeth wrote: > there were conan >and his other two guests, looking sleek and self-satisfied and babbling >on about pauly shore movies (ick), and there was robyn looking shaggy and >sinister ... all alone with his Pauly on the Shore. - David Librik librik@cs.Berkeley.edu [][][][][][][][][][] From: BRUCE%TOYVAX@Arizona.EDU Date: Sun, 04 Jun 1995 20:17:19 -0700 (MST) Subject: Unrelated To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Sorry bout this but i am wondering if anyone has the address to the Wire newsgroup.
