Well, he's just keeping us on our toes... > A feglist-only release whould be quite economically feasable for him > actually! I was that fellow who made that comment to Robyn, and I certainly was attempting some feeble humor rather than trying to be 'sassy'. I don't think Robyn would be interested in a feg-list release - anything like that would likely go through Mrs. Wafflehead - many of us are already on that mailing list, and it gets posted to the Web page anyway. As I said, his reaction to the list seemed odd. Perhaps as someone else said he can't understand why we would all spend valuable time discussing him. :) Anyway, I would definitely be up for a spoken-word release. The latest issue of WHFS Press has a two-page article in it by Robyn himself. "Robyn Hitchcock spent spring break in Rio with two dozen [W]HFS listeners...We're glad he kept a diary," says the intro. (WHFS Press is a free 32-page magazine printed up irregularly by the alternative station in the Washington, DC / Baltimore area.) If I was a better typist I would post the article, but the significant content for me included a discussion of the corpse washed up on the beach as well as a Beavis and Butt-head reference. Since I'm too lazy to type the article in, I'd be willing to toss copies of the magazine in the mail for the cost of postage. Or perhaps some other local Fegmaniac has better typing skills than myself. (I have always thought that Beavis and friend would enjoy dissing Robyn's low-budget videos, but I suppose there aren't enough "chicks" in them. Many of the other bands I like have been insulted in this manner, exposing their music to a whole new audience or something.) BLIMEY!!) Those aren't archetypes, that's how we talk, old boy. :-) >And some (not all!) of Robyn's guitar solos sound suspiciously >(though probably unintentionally) like Neil Innes' in "In the Canyons >of Your Mind." Ah, yes - the most ghastly guitar solo ever recorded. Indubitably a masterpiece. However, I would doubt that there is that much of a specific Bonzo influence on Hitchcock material. It's all part of a peculiarly British strand of absurdity which goes back from the Pythons to the Goons, Flanders and Swann, 'Round the Horne', 'Much Binding in the Marsh' and beyond. You can see it in 'Tom Jones' (the novel by Fielding, not the phallocentric Welsh singer, even though *he's* conscious enough of his own absurdity) if you look. It seems to be in the blood, like coagulants. Although, I suppose that Flann O'Brien, Tom Lehrer and SJ Perelman (none of whom are British) share it, among others. Even the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby 'Road' films show a hint. And then there's the Marx Brothers (although much of their scriptwriting was by Perelman and it's the juxtaposition of his - and Groucho's - linguistic fireworks with the slapstick which makes them so special). Let's face it, there are some many funny guys out there... I've figured out a few, and would love to share 'em. But, I'd hate to waste bandwith and be a pest. Question Two: I live in Canada. How much are the previously mentioned Mrs. Wafflehead merchandise items in Candian currency? My First Interesting Robyn Hitchcock Story: Robyn was slated to play Calgary (where I live) in October. My band was supposed to tour (kind of - we went to two towns that pretend to be cities) in October. Guess why I missed seeing Robyn live?
