Chris--Thanks for the celebrity tidbit!! I've heard it said before that Robyn is a big Tanya-fan....Fegs have said that he caught the Belly show in Boston either just before or after the concert he played at TT the Bear's. I've never been able to track it down, but supposedly Robyn played a cover of "Feed the Tree" during a WHFS Festival in '93 (on the same bill with belly). And I've often thought that the song "Beautiful Queen" was written for and about Tanya Donnelly. If any central New Yorkers don't already know this, Belly is playing a free show in Albany next Sunday, the 14th at Washington Park for the city's Tulip Festival. I think they go on at about 3pm...See you there!!! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- John B. Didn't Robyn write "The Yip Song" BEFORE his dad died? I saw him in San Francisco a few days after his dad died and he performed it, without reference to his dad and sounding very tight, not like he had written it several days before. Besides, usually there's a period of time between a personal tragedy and and a song about it. -Fred ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Hamilton fred_m_hamilton@cup.portal.com [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Mon, 08 May 95 09:47:22 From: Russ Reynolds To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: archives n'stuff Hi all. We *finally* got our AOL software installed here at work, which means I can *finally* do some browsing of Web sites and what not. I'm anxious to check out the fegmaniax archives, or any other Hitchcock related sites (photos, whatever). Would anyone care to e-mail me with info on where to find some of this stuff? thanks in advance. I gotta split (it's a quaint old fashioned way to say goodbye). I've been meaning to ask a question for quite some time, and have a few other things to say so I'll make this a combo-post. I heard a song on the radio a while back and I coulda sworn it was Uncle Rob doing the singing. Turned out to be someone called Peter Perot (??) or something like that...(dang dj's).... anywhay, the song went something like this, "I'm on another planet with you... with you, I feel on another world with you" I can't hum it for you as I have no digitizer, but those of you who know the answer, if any, should be able to figure this out... I was going to have Mike tell tribute contributors in his next tribute-posting (he's got the mailing list nicely set up) but heck, traffic has dropped off since the "other bands" thread so here goes.... 1. I need _short_ bits of info from all of you except Bruce, James, VERGE, Dolph, and King Nilator for the tape J card. Anthing you want, just so it can fit in the tape case. dIf you DON'T want to have a paragraph in the J card (just your band name), that's ok, let me know that too. 2. I'm ready to take requests for the Glass Flesh Tape tree. Let me know: a) your name and address b) what dubbing equipment you have (DAT-DAT, DAT-analog, pro analog, k-mart) c) how many people you can make copies for (the more the merrier) d) what you would prefer to exchange for: (blank tapes, live tapes, $) Those with the best equipment will be the main branches. Mark and Simon have already volunteered to make DAT->analog copies-- thanks guys. If you emailed me before about the tape tree, please do so again, as everything on my old account was lost. The _Glass Flesh_ covers tribute tape tree is not to be confused with the other cuurent fegmaniax tape tree, Netsurfer ghost. (Which incedentally sounds a lot like what Robyn plans on doing next himself-- taping himself at various gigs and releasing it-- heck, it only cost about $1 each to make a CD in quantity... I'm surprised he hasn't pressed the spoken word stuff--- never got around to reading it all aloud yet i guess. I'm sure the comment about "Know what I'm doing next?" is a challenge to the fellow who commented to Robyn (quite innocently but it came off kind of sassy) "We know what you're going to do before you do it." Well, he's just keeping us on our toes... A feglist-only release whould be quite economically feasable for him actually! 3. Here is the tentative tracklisting order for those interested. Suggestions welcomed... I have attempted to keep the songs nicely grouped/mixed by song style and sound quality, as well as intro-outtro nuance... all of which only I can really know about in the case of THESE versions as a group ;)X A few are still tentative-- Let me know of your progress, contributors! And send those tapes... PS. the thing about cancer is, it takes its time about killing you. the Yip song is about dying slowly, not actually -being- dead (unlike most other songs). Thus it came into being before Hitchcock pere passed on. turquoise tape side i prelude destroy you queen elvis higsons tonight alright yeah she doesn't exist flavour of night side ii brenda's iron sledge balloon man (rubber edit) i got the hots wax doll/cynthia mask (medley) underwater moonlight serpent at the gates of wisdom railway shoes city of shame glass hotel ________________ ultraviolet tape side 1 airscape surgery heliotrope the president asking tree old pervert furry green atom bowl kingdom of love my wife & my dead wife (a cappella) i used to say i love you side 2 midnight fish insanely jealous sleeping knights of jesus mr deadly i watch the cars if you were a priest ride uncorrected personality traits love the abandoned brain my wife & my dead wife (instrumental) [][][][][][][][][][] Date: 8 May 1995 12:41:52 U From: "King Chuck" Subject: RE: The Yip Song To: "fegmaniax" Fred asks: > Didn't Robyn write "The Yip Song" BEFORE his dad died? I believe the song is more about the events and emotions leading up to his death ("I believe in surgery") rather than the death itself. If so, Robyn probably had more than enough time to write the song. Another Girl, Another Planet by The Only Ones of which Peter Perott (??) was a member. Originally released in the late 70s/early 80s. I know that I saw a review of another band (Paul Westerberg (?)) that was covering it, so perhaps Peter Perott has re-recorded and re-issued it. RH: Andy, Morris, and I got together and tidied up some old tapes and various bits & pieces. The only problem is that we decided to do it chronologically-- that was Rykodisc's suggestion, and maybe what we should have done is a separate "Greatest Hits" collection and a "Rarities" CD rather than expect people who'd already bought "I Wanna Destroy You" five times to pay for it again. I think the double didn't really work as either thing. PT: After the Soft Boys you took up the role of lead guitarist. Was it a major decision for you to step out of the shadows and take over this side of your music? RH: After the soft Boys I just didn't want to work with any more guitarists. Kimberley Rew was earsplitting, and I've always felt tense with the other guitarists I've been with. In the Soft Boys, and prior to the Soft Boys, there was always another guitarist who I'd end up resenting, so i just decided I didn't want another guitarist. The problem is that live, if you've got a rhythm section you need something else besides one guitar. For a long time The Egyptians was a three-piece, and I think it relied too much on the bass to decorate things and keep it going because I couldn't really sing and play much at the same time. Geez, you would think that since there were only ten or so remaining unreleased Soft Boys songs, a double CD could manage to contain all of them. I'm glad the CD has produced so many new Soft Boys fans but -- c'mon, Robyn, can you get Rykodisc to do a Soft Boys Rarities CD? There's still enough stuff out there -- _Portland Arms_, "Innocent Boy," "Bells of Rhymney," "Like A Real Smoothie," "Look Into Your Mirror," some interesting live tracks like "Brian O'Linn" -- to get a disc out for completeness's sake. - David Librik librik@cs.Berkeley.edu [][][][][][][][] End of this Fegmaniax Digest.
