It's credited to John Hegley and the Popticians. One of the other songs is "Amoeba", and I can't remember the third. The group is a trio, including someone on tuba and a female vocalist. The cover drawing is by Robyn, and the graphic design overall is similar to that of "Element of Light". Morris and Robyn play on it, or produce it (or both). And, if I had the damn thing at work with me, I could tell you everything! :) Chuck [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 4 May 95 16:24:09 BST To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu From: jturner@rpms.ac.uk (Jonathan Turner) Subject: Frances not Frank Just to add to the confusion, I spoke to my tame Irish music expert about Frances Black. His reply was "Brilliant. Sister of Mary Black. Irish female ballad singer that some might call country-ish, but it's not really." She's apparently playing the Fleadh in June, so it looks like she could be around for the dates with Robyn at the end of May. Apologies for minimal Robyn content. Jonathan. I'm most interested in tapes from the recent US dates, with the new songs. I have several live tapes for trade. My list is now on my computer, so I can send it out with great ease. If you are interested in trading, please drop me a note, and I'll send you my list immediately. Thanks. daveR. The acoustic song I didn't know was played in place of QE and IODOT never happened :( Robyn was drinking water until the second encore when he asked someone to get him a pint of Guiness. (I thought I'd throw this in given the 'what does Robyn drink?' thread a few weeks ago - given their surreal style of advertising in the UK, it seems a strangely appropriate drink.) I'll be at the St Helen's gig next week, and I'll post the set list for that. -- Rob Collingwood Warrington, Cheshire, England E-mail: rob@nimbus.demon.co.uk or: rac2@student.open.ac.uk [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 04 May 1995 15:55:35 -0500 (CDT) From: JAY LYALL Subject: Haalllloooo!!!! Some notes: 1. I've just worked out the chords, and one or two things RH MIGHT do, but I've never seen him perform this. Any help that could be given by those who have would be gratefully received. 2. I use a capo on the first fret, so that I play it in B ather than the C it seems to be in. This sounds like I'm making the chords trickier, but it's the only way I can make some of the picking structures work. 3. Talking of picking, apart from one or two rudimentary pointers, this is the chords only. I'll leave the fretwork for someone more able :) 4. There are only six chords, but they're mainly weird ones. I've given them special names for the purpose of writing them easily above the lyrics: actually played as (capo 1st) structure called Csus4. . . . . . .Bsus4. . . . . . . .xx9870 . . . .B^ Csus4/Bb . . . . .Bsus4/A. . . . . . .xx7870 . . . .Bx Bb . . . . . . . .A. . . . . . . . . .xx7650 . . . .A^ F. . . . . . . . .E. . . . . . . . . .022100 . . . .E Dm . . . . . . . .C#m. . . . . . . . .446654 . . . .C#m Bb . . . . . . . .A. . . . . . . . . .002220 . . . .A 5. Occasionally, B^ and A^ are played with thumb or index finger on the sixth string (7x9870 and 5x7650 respectively). Occasionally (like on the last "in a glass hotel", Bx seems to be played xx7970. 6. This isn't definitive, it's a template. Anyone who wants to improve on it, or work it out without a capo, please feel free. I'd welcome it! RH: I was buying Bob Dylan mainly, everything I could get hold of by him. I was a complete Dylan fiend. If I could have taken a pill that would have given me curly hair and sunglasses, I would have done it. I liked the Beatles and all the rest of them, but dylan was the absolute guv'nor, he was the thing off the top of the pile. I go into him just at the time he was falling off his bike, so, as is often the case, I got into something as it was just over. But all the stuff that was then happening; Love and the Byrds, the Doors, Country Joe and the Fish, The Incredible String Band and Traffic, Captain Beefheart. I wasn't that crazy about the Pink Floyd. Syd Barrett, I actually got to like his solo lps. I quite liked "Candy and A Currant Bun", but I thought it was a bit posey, the early Floyd stuff. I thought it was a pop version of jazz or something, there was some vibe I didn't like. When Barrett himself really got into trouble you could feel this "help me..." coming off the grooves, like "The Fly"? They turn round and there's this fly with a human head and arm just going "Help me...", and a spider's going to eat it, so they just drop a rock on it. It was like that, only more passive-aggressive. But the short answer to your question is Bob Dylan. He's the one responsible for all of this. PT: There's a track on your last lp "Serpent At The Gates of Wisdom", which is very Bob Dylan. RH: Well, it's got harmonica on it-- all you've got to do is play a bit of naff harmonica and you immediately sound like Bob Dylan. [][][][][][][][] End of this Fegmaniax Digest.
