(most rap, C&W, very heavy thrash/speed metal) Which just leaves the rest :) I'm on mailing lists for XTC, Eno, King Crimson, New Zealand Music (Bats, Chills, Headless Chickens, David Kilgour etc), Billy Bragg and The Church, and also on the Ambient list (everyone from Philip Glass to the Grid) and Julian Cope list. I used to be on the Jethro Tull List. But wait - there's more! The Triffids, Hunters and Collectors, The Saints, The Beatles (of course), Peter Gabriel, Sugar, Sisters of Mercy, Rain Parade, Echo & the Bunnymen, the Who, Warren Zevon, Shriekback, Miranda Sex Garden, the Byrds (but not the country stuff), Kate Bush, and many, many more that other people have mentioned (from Leonard Cohen to Bruce Cockburn to U2 to Van Morrison to Midnight Oil... aauuugghhh!). Plus: I'm getting increasingly interested in "world music", from Hedningarna to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Good to see a lot of fans of Dunedin music out there (eg Chills, Bats, Kilgour, Clean, Verlaines etc.) -- obRobyn: Can anyone tell me what the story is with the "extra verse" of 'Bass', which appears in the lyric sheet of EoL, but not on the record itself? A few days back somebody asked about _The Day They Ate Brick_. I got kicked off the line somehow but her I am again with the tracklisting. Incedentally, if anyone knows of a source for setlists and/or any kind of venue information for robyn related projects, please let me know; that would come in quite handy for the "RobynBase". I'm especially interested in any information on pre-soft boys projects the Symptoms, Maureen and the Meatpakers and Dennis & the Experts. email me privately for fav bands and to recommend other groovies. I'm especially intrigued by this idea of banging on non-instruments. What was that about an electric rake? who else uses kitchen appliances besides robyn? (on stage.) To: Fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Well, since we seem to be on a thread of other bands that we fegmaniax enjoy, I'd like to ask for some info on a few of the bands mentioned by some of you all. First of all, can anybody give me some info. on Nick Drake? What sort of stuff does he play? Everything I've read about him makes him sound very appealing... Secondly, what is the Loud Family? What sort of music are they up to? Finally, to bring it all back to Robyn...well, nothin' to say, but I mentioned his name at least. :-) daveR. Well, I use an Aiwa deck for recording since it was really cheap and I dont mind it getting smashed/broken/confiscated/etc and gives pretty decent results... I use an Aiwa mic as well, but it's too bassy. I've used a sony mic (from the WM-D6) and it's not bassy enough! I've taped with a D3, a D6, and my Aiwa and I must say that the mic is the number one important thing! If you want really good sound, invest in a good mic and a decent (though not NICE) stereo walkman. That'll make great sounding tapes. The D3 and D6 are nice, but they're really not necessary IMHO. Only for the extreme good sound. The mic's the thing! The high Sony models both suck up batteries and are too large to fit easily in a pocket. Also, with a recording walkman, you can always play dumb to the security persons and say it's just a player. I always walk in with my walkman and some headphones and a real tape in it and get no hassles. Then I put in the blank and hook up the mic in the bathroom... So if you want to tape, ggo to an electronics store and put down $70 or so on a decent stereo walkman. Then go to an audiophile store and get a good mic for $120 or so. Your tapes will sound great and its still cheaper than the D3 which comes with a crappy mic anyway... Just a note-------- During the Respect Tour, I talked to Robyn about his guitar when he was in Toronto, because my friend and I argued wether it was a Gibson twelve string or not. He told us it was a Set-Zero that he had purchased for about $40 bucks from a guy who used to work with Spinal Tap (i'm not making this up, I couldn't). He showed us the modifications he had done with it (ie-pickups and rewiring). He liked the sound from the instrument. He told us he had a Rick on the last tour because :"everyone else had one." Just to let you know. BTW--He uses a Gibson acoustic when he tours solo, or at least he used to. The model escapes me now...... -HERBIE -- I'm Looking for NIRVANA Bootlegs, Hitchcock too.
