I have an AIWA tie-tac mike, and it works nicely for me, although it doesn't pick up the lower frequencies (i.e., bass, kick drum) very well. The problem might be your recorder. If your recorder has an automatic level adjuster, or NO adjuster, then you are a candidate for tapes with lots of distortion and stuff. If you are using an external mike, you could make a sound investment by buying a Sony D3, (about $200-250) which lets you adjust the recording volume., or a Sony D6 (about $300-350) which lets you adjust the recording level, and gives you a mic attenuator which keeps your levels from peaking too much. I recently bought a D6, but for years I didn't have that kind of money to invest. So I experimented with all kinds of recorders and mikes (nothing over 70 bucks, mind you) Probably the best low cost investment for taping is a Sony Tape Recorder with a built in Stereo Mike. This only cost about 70 dollars and give pretty good results. Sorry for non Robyn content post. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- John B.
