Our school was divided between those who preferred their metal blues-based (AC/DC mostly, with some Led Zep on the side, though Led Zep is only kinda metal) or white-boy cold 'n' fast (Priest). Iron Maiden was too artsy for us hillbillies. Though I do recall a discussion in college between a couple of otherwise sentinent beings who worked on productions in the theatre department where the subject was NOT "is Bruce Dickenson a genius?" but "HOW GREAT of a genius is Bruce Dickenson?" In 1980, it would have most likely been a fan >of the Dead Kennedys/Sex Pistols/The Clash. > >James > Close, but no cigar. . In its 1980 sense, a 'headbanger' was a fan of heavy metal/hard rock music, which automatically differentiated him/her from people who liked punk and/or new wave (such as the Dead Kennedys/Sex Pistols/The Clash [and remember that the Dead Kennedeys were not exactly huge in the UK, anyway]). A critical element of headbanging is the waving of one's hair around, and punks didn't have any, to speak of... Punks pogo-ed, at that epoch. So let's assume you're a headbanger... In 1980, a female headbanger would have been clad in absurdly tight, faded blue jeans, a rather-too-small denimn jacket and (under the jacket) a white T-shirt. Her male equivalent would have been almost identically dressed. If rich enough to have a motorcycle (which would, by choice, be a Triumph or Norton), the denimn jacket might well be supplemented by a leather jacket with a torn-off denimn jacket on top of *that*. Musical tastes might have included Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Motorhead (who were just getting a foothold), Status Quo and - for those quite moments - Yes and Genesis. A key feature of bedroom architecture would have been several Roger Dean posters. Drugs would have been hash and (very occasionally) LSD. Even if you had a sneaking respect for some of the punk groups, as a headbanger you would have affected to despise all of them ('none of them can play, not like Richie Blackmore), as well as the people who liked them. You would have demonstrated this by having fights with punks outside the pub after it closed at 10:30 on Friday (if male) and by calling the punk girls 'ugly slags' (m/f). You probably cut your hair off in about 1982, when you left university and got a job. You now have a 5-door car and like Dire Straits. Mike. As I said in my post, the catalog number is CDSEQ2. My import distributor, however, has their _own_ code system, and the catalog number they gave it (still on a sticker I haven't peeled off the cover) is HR011. The inevitable rash of lawsuits would bankrupt Ben & Jerry's, Robyn & anyone on this list who helped think it up. We should just forget the idea ever came up... ...perhaps, though, it's already been tried. How did Robyn get the idea for "Eaten By Her Own Dinner"? Ryan" To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: Attn: Fegs in Philly Hey Folks, Clint and I are heading up to philly for the shows this saturday and was wondering if anyone up there might want to meet at a bar somewhere before the show. We aren't real familiar with the area but if someone could give us directions I am sure we can manage. Also, if anyone knows any cheap motels near where Robyn is playing, we would appreciate a recomendation. Thanks, Terrence [][][][][][][][] End of this Fegmaniax Digest.
