This item is a UK promo-only release, not a CD single. (Unless it has been released officially in the past week.) Perhaps you could find out from your solicitors whether Robyn actually gets any of the profits from the sale of this disc. I suspect not. I know, I know. It doesn't stop us from buying it. Nothing I've ever ordered from this particular company before has ever turned out to be a promo; everything they've had has been stock items. But I'll check into this and find out if Robyn is making any money. I know a lot uf us would prefer having those K tracks on CD rather than on a low-fi 7". (I like 7" singles, but the fact that two songs are stuck together on one side makes for rather compressed sound.) While he was definitely the same Robyn Hitchcock with the same vocal quirks and oddities, his tones sounded purer and he seemed much more confident about his vocals. Much as I've always loved the lyrics, in the past it would sometimes seem like he wasn't comfortable or confident with his voice and relied on the words carrying him over. My big-time honey is a trained musician and singer (Berklee College of Music) and she was shocked by how great Robyn's voice sounded compared to the studio albums I continually subject her to. I would really like to visit the English countryside, and I would also like to gain some veterinary experience this summer to ease my application to veterinary school next year, and I figured it would be neat to do a combination of the two so that I could spend the summer basking (or not) in some sort of James Herriot-esque saga in Great Britain. I have absolutely no connections whatsoever in the British veterinary world, though, and so as a last ditch attempt to find some type of contact, I appeal to you, the members of this treasured mailing list. Option A2 (March/April 1985) ROBYN HITCHCOCK: I Often Dream of Trains With punk and heavy metal coming in for revision, it was only a matter of time before progressive rock would be changed by a new generation who harken back to the halcyon days of looking through the import bins for the latest releases on Harvest and Vertigo. Robyn Hitchcock (formerly of the Floydian Soft Boys) is from England, so he could pick up the albums by the bushelful, and it seems like he picked up a ton of Kevin Ayers/Syd Barrett styled twisted prog-pop that reeks of early seventies art-deco that flourished on these labels 'til punk looked like a better money-maker. Hysteria always repeats itself, and where the Soft Boys epitomised the British LSD experience, Hitchcock takes off into early deviations of the dregs of Carnaby Street. I kinda expect Hitchcock to go into hiding until 1987, when he'll appear at a Mont de Marson styled punk- fest and release a few obscure 45s until fading into retirement once again. I'm thinking of going to rec.music.misc for a worldwide inquiry. I don't know all the original sources for these tracks -- in particular I don't know which Hendrix and Morrissey albums those songs come from -- but the other ones are: Take A Chance With Me - from Roxy Music, AVALON Sen~or (Tales of Yankee Power) - from Bob Dylan, UNDER THE RED SKY Yer Blues - from the Beatles, THE BEATLES Dominoes - from Syd Barrett, BARRETT Calvary Cross - from Richard Thompson, I WANT TO SEE THE BRIGHT LIGHTS TONIGHT It's interesting how this list starts to look like Hitchcock's "My Top Ten Favorite Albums" list, from the new liner notes to GOTTA LET THIS HEN OUT!
