On the subject of "The Man Who Invented Himself," I had always thought that it was about Syd, but I like the idea of it being about Jesus -- "He's the only person in the world who still belives he's real." I had a 5 line sig last year and I actually had a few people try to bill me for what the "excessive size" of my sig was costing them. ________Paul Cohen________________pmcohen@netaxs.com________________________ Philadelphia, PA http://www.netaxs.com/~pmcohen/ [][][][][][][][][][] From: FARBER@HULAW1.HARVARD.EDU Date: Wed, 08 Feb 1995 15:48:45 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: Robyn possible soundtrack game To: Sharon Northern Cc: Fegmaniax On Mon, 6 Feb 1995, Sharon Northern wrote: > > <...Ok I've got a game for us...if Robyn were to do a soundtrack what movie > should he it very > jay > > OOOOh...a game! Anyway, since at least two Robyn fans seem to like these films perhaps there is something to the suggestion that his music would've been appropriate. On the other hand, I couldn't see Robyn coming up with a song quite as simple and appropriately upbeat a song as the theme song Cat Stevens wrote for Harold and Maude (What was it called? If you wanna be free, be free...?). Also, A Clockwork Orange required lots of classical music. Any other opinions? Does anyone else care? --Craig p.s. - good taste in music and movies, Sharon. Without knowing *any* of the facts I would take this info. with a grain of salt. Cynthia was one of those outrageously, incomprehensibly sweet and patient people, to the point that you think Hell is going to freeze over any minute because someone like that exists. And she was so adorable that you know she *had* to be really nice for Trudi and I not to take an immediate dislike to her. ;) Sandra [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Wed, 8 Feb 1995 18:43:44 -0500 From: father bungholio To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: adminstrivia Cynthia Peterson wisely suggests: >I'm not sure of the protocol for this type of mail group, but would it be >too much to suggest that we all make a point of posting our individual >addresses with our messages so that privately-oriented bickering can take >place off-the-group's-line? two things: 1) it is nice to include your address at the end of your post for the folks who have brain-dead mailers that chop off headers. 2) i'd appreciate it if on-list bickering did not happen. i don't take a particularly heavy-handed approach to listowning but there are a few ground rules that i'd like all list members to follow with taking personal arguments having nothing to do with robyn, et. al. being one of them. if you have a problem with that, i invite you to take it up with me. if you're curious about other things i'd rather not see on the list, send "info fegmaniax" to majordomo@nsmx.rutgers.edu. woj [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Wed, 8 Feb 1995 18:56:56 -0500 From: father bungholio To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: one more bit of boring admin stuff fegs, i just uploaded to fegmania.wustl.edu a file that contains all (or at least most) of the mail that had to do with robyn that was sent to me during the second interregnum (the last three months - woo! didn't realize it was that long - of last year). this includes mail that was sent to the list just after it choked and mail that was sent between list members who remembered each others' addresses. there are some pretty interested posts in there so it's worth taking a look at. if you are web-challenged, ftp to fegmania.wustl.edu, log in as anonymous, cd to fegmaniax/archives and get the file interregnum2. if you aren't, it's ftp://fegmania.wustl.edu/fegmaniax/archives/interregnum2. woj [][][][][][][][][][] Date: Wed, 8 Feb 95 20:13:57 EST From: "Balloon Man" To: fegmaniax@ns2.rutgers.edu Subject: RE: Poor Will & the Jolly Hangman >From: bj835@cleveland.freenet.edu (Tim Connors) > >Robyn has covered "Withered and Died" and "Calvary Cross" by RT as well. I feel much more sure of my recall since the posting about Suzanne Vega and the Dead doing "Chinese Bones" in New York. I'd sent Bayard something about this a while back, but thought it might be an hallucination. A couple of RH-related notes: About eight years ago here in Washington (DC), our local public TV station (WETA) carried a show called VideoSpin -- featured alternative/odd videos with hosts who can only be described as a sort of Siskel & Ebert as 7-11 clerks. How alternative/odd, you may ask? They could play Alpha Blondi and Old Skull on the same show. The show was produced out of Pittsburgh. Anyway, I seem to remember an appearance by Robyn H. Think this may have been 1985 -- didn't somebody mention a radio interview that he did in Pittsburgh in '85? Could have been the same tour. I also remember that they may have shown all or part of the "Madonna of the Wasps" video. I think Robyn made a comment about never doing another one because it was simply an advertisement that only benefited the label -- anybody from A&M wanna comment?. I think he may have been miffed because he didn't have artistic control. There was a little clip of Robyn in concert (sound was so bad that I couldn't tell what they were playing). What I remember most about the segement was that they interviewed Robyn on a rooftop somewhere. The slacker-Ebert said something about Robyn not wanting to get too close to the edge of the roof -- claimed he has acrophobia. Seems kind of a weird malady for somebody so tall... Anyone else hear the similarities between "I Watch the Cars" (BSDR) and "Devil Mask" (GOF)? The predominant chord structure is the same -- especially at the end of "Devil Mask." Don't know if they're in the same key, though, just listening to BSDR and it hit me. D.C.) is sponsoring a Spring Break trip to Rio and guess who is going? That's right. Your pal and mine, Robyn, is going on this trip with the radio personalities. He's supposed to be doing a private performance as well. Now, all you have to do is spend $991.00 in order to catch our man in a bathing suit! The price includes air fare, hotel accomodations, and breakfast for a week (March 17 - 24th). If anyone is interested call (301) 565-4400 for more information. I'd love to go but my money is dedicated to Mr./Ms. IRS in April. If anyone goes, you must be sure to report on Robyn's activities!
