Well, I gotta say that I also like my R.E.M. shows in small and intimate surroundings... Back in '85 I was lucky enough to see them in a local club that fits about 500 - but only 300 were there! I got a ticket for the forthcoming arena tour, but I'm not really looking forward to that. Still, I'd be happy if Robyn opened for them, because he comes to Germany so seldom. I've asked this before: Robyn speaks German pretty well, so you'd think that he likes the country. However, he has toured Germany only TWICE during the last TEN years. Can you believe that? WHY??? Germany is the second-largest market (for music) in the world, after all. Greetings, Sebastian -- Sebastian Hagedorn "I am unable, yonder beggar cries, Linguistic Data Processing, To stand or move. Got there as the opening act was doing their last three or four songs. They we're GREAT! The songs were excellent, the energy terrific! I kept asking people what the name of the opening band was but nobody seemed to know...The LORDS' set was cut short when a drunken Stiv Bators hit himself in the nuts with the mic stand and had to be carried off the stage. It wasn't until the next day I found out the opening act was called R.E.M. A short while later CHRONIC TOWN was released. I remember being disapointed that the record didn't seem to have the energy of that live performance. Back on the subject of RH, I've got a recording from Maxwells, New Jersey, July 1987 that includes a couple of songs I don't think have ever been released, "The Angel Upstairs" and "Victorian Squid". Has anyone heard these songs elsewhere? Also, someone in the audience kept shouting for "The Hedgehog Song"...anyone have any idea what that is? I'm also trying to track down the title of another unreleased tune on a tape Trudi sent me once, recorded about the same time I think, at Ronnie Scott's in London. She listed it as "Sure" because it starts off "Sure as an Ant..." or something like that. I'm pretty sure that's not the actual song title. On the tape he segues right into "Tonight" (one of my favorite Soft Boys tunes). Sound quality is unfortunately pretty awful. Russ. rreynolds@ksjo.com who stole my bongos?
